Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün has said that it is the duty of Turkish Cypriots “to understand and transfer the bright and foresightful ideas of Atatürk to new generations”, and to continue their commitment to his principles forever.
Responding to questions during a TV interview, TRNC Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu stated that partnership with the Greek Cypriot side is not the single option for the Turkish Cypriot people and added that “Negotiations which continued for 50 years and ended in failure cannot be resumed after the Greek Cypriot presidential elections in the south.
Speaking at an Economy and Policy Seminar at the Middle East Technical University Campus in the TRNC, President Mustafa Akıncı said that if a solution is reached with the Greek Cypriot side, the TRNC will take its place as an equal founding state, otherwise it will continue on its own way. “There is no need to search for other paths,” Akıncı said.
Following the United Nations General Assembly, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has flown from New York to hold meetings in Washington D.C, where he met with US State Department officials and Turkish Ambassador Serdar Kılıç.
President Mustafa Akıncı, who is in New York attending a series of working meetings during the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, gave a speech at the Presidium meeting in the UN Centre yesterday. Greek President of the Socialist International Yorgos Papandreou and his Vice-President were also in attendance.
