Artefacts from Geometric period found in North Cyprus

During excavations carried out in Tatlısu, an ancient tomb and many historical artefacts from the Geometric Period were found.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu participated in an event on World Tourism Day, 27th September, in order to create awareness of tourism, by visiting the Vasıf Palace Museum in Lefke, which will be open to the public in 3-4 months time.

The statue of Artemis which was found in 1980 in Salamis is on display at the Güzelyurt Nature and Archaeology Museum. The statue was surrounded with deer figures, but was missing some pieces.

An important step has been taken to identify and protect the underwater cultural heritage of Northern Cyprus.

Associate Professor Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu is going to represent the East Mediterranean University in the “Amphorae” project organized by Europa Nostra and the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus.

Having been to Erenköy on a number of occasions and as a member of TFR, I was pleased to see that yet even more people had made their way to the site of the Erenköy siege of Turkish Cypriots by Greek Troops and Greek Cypriot National Guard which started on 6th August 1964 and learn the truth of this important part of Northern Cyprus history.

When I first came to North Cyprus I spent time exploring the many fascinating places in Lefkosa, and I soon discovered a museum near to the Kyrenia Gate and this was the Museum of National Struggle and I decided I would go back again as I wanted to write about it, and with the anniversary the 20th July Turkish Intervention in Cyprus 1974 now seems an ideal time to publish what I learned.

The TRNC participated in the General Assembly 2018 meeting of Cittaslow (Slow City), an international network of 236 municipalities from 30 different countries, which was held in France.
