Result : ESENTEPE KKSK 1 GÖNYELI SK 3
Saturday 21 October : K-Pet League 1 : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadı
An inspired tactical substitution by Gönyeli Coach Emre Perçinci turned this game on its head. The substitute Velat Çelik delivered a two goal salvo which struck Esentepe amidship and a further hit on target from Okan resulted in Esentepe sinking without a trace.
Saturday May 20th: BTM League Group 3: Venue : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.
On a windswept chilly afternoon Bahçeli were blown away by a competent Görneç team and now really their chances of reaching the qualifying stages look remote.
Being a local “Derby” match a largish crowd was attracted to this fixture despite a gale force wind blowing around the ground.
Bahçeli won the toss and had the benefit of the wind behind them but failed to capitalise on it and it proved a hindrance rather than a benefit. Their “dead ball” attempts were feeble and they produced only one shot on goal from distance.
Görneç looked useful up front with the burly Arda linking up well with his fellow striker Hüseyin.
The striker who is a “man mountain” gave the Bahçeli defence a really hard time. ARDA opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Levent did well to keep the ball in on the right passed to Hüseyin who in turn passed it to his striking partner Arda who fired a shot past Tuğrul. 0-1.
For the remainder of the half Bahçeli “huffed and puffed” but could not blow the Görneç house down.
That man ARDA did damage again in the 54th minute when good work by Levent who sent in a low cross where it was met by the Görneç striker who turned it past Tuğrul.
Bahçeli then had a “purple patch” led by substitute Aydın and made a spirited attempt to get back in the game. They were rewarded in the 59th minute when they managed to pull a goal back. From a free kick just outside the area, taken by Sınan, who put in a good shot which rebounded down off the Görneç crossbar to AYDIN who prodded it in. 1-2.
This gave Bahçeli heart, but having got back into the game they were caught cold by sloppy defending in the 63rd minute. A long ball glanced off the top of Bahçeli defender Abdullah’s head and straight into the path of LEVENT who sent in a low shot past a badly positioned Tuğrul.
FULL TIME: 1-3.
Görneç who were playing in the same League as Esentepe 2 seasons ago looked like a team who desperately want to regain their League status. They played as a team whereas Bahçeli relied on individuals. ARDA for Görneç was my “man of the match”, for a “big unit” he was surprisingly very mobile on the floor and would be a very useful signing for Esentepe.
For Bahçeli there were a number of useful performers, notably youngsters Emrah and Sınan, Substitute Aydın after coming on also made a difference in midfield.
BAHÇELI TEAM: Tuğrul (gk). Serdal, Emrah, Hasan, Raşit (Soner 56), Sınan (Yakup 71), Cafer (Aydın 27), Kazım, Abdullah, Uğurcan, Cemre.
Five municipalities in the Girne region have collectively organised cleaning up of the roadside and central reservation on the 24km route between Gönyeli roundabout and Alsancak roundabout.
With the approval of the Presidency, the environment clean-up and environmental protection project “Think Clean”, for the roadside and central reservation clean-up work has been completed on the 24km route between Gönyeli roundabout and Alsancak roundabout. Girne, Dikmen, Alsancak, Lapta and Esentepe Municipalities contributed to the campaign. Within the scope of the project, each municipality cleaned the grass alongside the road including the central reservation of the road of 4km length and collected garbage. Girne Municipality cleaning branch teams cleaned the part between St Hilarion Crossroad and Onar Village which is the main road entrance to Girne city under the responsibility of highways.
Güngördü: The problem is not cleaning, but pollution
Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü said that he is happy to cooperate with the Presidential Office and the Girne Region municipalities within the scope of the Think Clean Project. In order to ensure that the route most frequently used by tourists is clean. Güngördü stated that cleaning was done on the main road extending from the Nicosia junction to the Alsancak junction in the framework of the suggestions made by the Municipalities in order to clean the route that the tourists use the most, and said that the Girne Municipality would cooperate with the other Municipalities. Pointing out that they aimed to raise awareness in society, Güngördü added that the original idea is to teach not to pollute and to educate the citizens not to pollute the environment.
When my wife and I came to Cyprus on holiday twice a year we often used to drive along the north coast. We noticed a multi coloured camper van that appeared to have been abandoned just outside Esentepe village. Each time we came her it seemed that the paint job had faded a bit, another window had been lost to the elements, and more rust had appeared.
For a year we have lived her permanently, and we drive past this vehicle every week. We’ve often wondered what the background to this camper van is?
I expect some probably consider it an eyesore, or a heap of rubbish, but over the years we’ve come to see it as a local landmark, something that is always present, yet changing over time. We’d be sorry to see it go, yet how long can it last?
Since we’ve been here we’ve asked several people about the van, but we’ve not met anyone who knows its history.
Can you throw any light on this? If so please send in a comment and we can share it with all our readers.
Saturday October 29th : kick off 3-30pm : Venue Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium:White Group Div 1
ESENTEPE KKSK v OZANKÖY SK.
The first home League match of the season bring together two local rivals, who over the years have fought some tough battles. This Saturday’s match should be no different and a mouth watering match is in prospect. Both teams won their opening fixtures of the season, Esentepe winning 2-0 away to Bostancı. Ozanköy 1-0 home to Gönyeli. Ozanköy are back in League 1 after gaining promotion last season, and being relegated in season 2013-14. It is good to see them back, they are one of the country’s oldest League clubs, and the Club is run in the right manner. They normally promote players through their youth teams, and a couple of seasons ago had a thriving soccer academy, hopefully they still have. Ozanköy used to have a good Ex-pat following, again hopefully they still have .
Ozanköy entered heavily into the transfer maket in the summer bringing in 7 new players including a “rarity” of a Greek Cypriot Michalis Michail, who was signed from Supa League Club Değirmenlik. Another new signing was the burly striker Arda Özkan and together with last seasons top scorer Bekir Yildiz they will provide a handful to the Esentepe defence. It will be an intriguing contest between Arda and Esentepe defender Fırat Kulle both former teammates at Görneç last season. Arda is an ox of a man, very powerful, and Fırat is tall and strong as well, the match could well hinge on who wins this battle. Bekir is a very good player as well, being the Division 2 leading goal scorer with 19 goals last season, again will need some watching.
Esentepe’s confidence is sky high after last weekends victory ad should remain unchanged, though a couple of players have slight knocks
DOWN MEMORY LANE : October 19th 2013.
The last time these two teams met was in season 2013-14, which saw Ozanköy relegated. It also saw the Lesague debut of Esentepe’s Mahmut Izoğlu, then aged 18, and he has been an ever present since then. Esentepe won by 2-0, with goals from Deniz 34mins and Mumin 83 mins.
ESENTEPE TEAM (4-4-1-1)
Ali (gk) : Mahmut, Berkan, Barış, Emek : Kaan (Mumin 61), Vurkan (Sergen 78), Hüseyin, Burak :İlyas (Umar 62) : Deniz.
PREDICTION : A close game, with Esentepe carry on with their good start a 2-1 win- we shall see.
PLEASE COME ALONG AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FOOTBALL TEAM.

Saturday October 22nd 2016. K-Pet League 1 White Group at Bostancı Yakup Özorun Stadı.
New signing striker Tacettin Köse helped himself to a brace of goals as Esentepe impressively won their opening League match of the season. Coach Davut Kansu should be very happy in his first game in charge of Esentepe with the team’s performance as they dominated the game for lengthy periods and could easily have added to their total.
On a lovely autumn afternoon Esentepe brought with them decent support and they almost had a goal to cheer about after only 2 minutes. From a long Firat free kick the ball fell invitingly to Tacettin, whose flick was deflected for a corner by Halil in the Bostancı goal. Then the Esentepe striker who was looking lively created a chance for himself but shot over the bar.
Tacettin was involved again chasing a long kick in the 22nd minute. Goalkeeper Halil came racing out of his area to meet the Esentepe striker and appeared to handle the ball as Tacettin tried to flick the ball past him, but referee, Serdar, appeared to have not seen the incident and the ball was cleared despite Esentepe’s appeals.
Tacettin would not be denied for long as Esentepe took a deserved lead in the 30th minute. Bostancı lost the ball in midfield to Hüseyin and the midfielder provided a superb pass picking out Başak who in turn set up TACETTİN to shoot past Halil. 0-1
42 minutes Esentepe should have had a penalty following a cross from Mahmut which appeared to have struck a defender’s hand but again unnoticed by the officials. Esentepe were given a rousing cheer by their noisy supporters as they left the field for the half time break. Half Time score:0-1.
During the break Bostancı must have had a roasting from their Coach as they started the second half in determined fashion, but without troubling goalkeeper Ali. They would be makers of their own downfall as they gave away a gift of a goal to Esentepe in the 49th minute. The ball was played across the Bostancı area by a home player to David who lost possession to TACETTIN who couldn’t believe his luck and slotted the ball past Halil. 0-2.
This took the wind out of the Bostancı sails as Esentepe were dominating the game with Hüseyin and Uğurcan in midfield behind a lot of Esentepe moves.
Bostancı at last managed to stir themselves and should have at least reduced the arrears when they squandered two chances within a minute of each other. In the 74th minute Bilal played a through ball behind the Esentepe defence to their African striker Justice who looked certain to score but somehow he shot wide. A minute later Bilal was involved again as Esentepe had another let off as a Bilal cross found Bahri who cracked his shot against the post and rebounded safely back into play.
Esentepe were now playing a containing game but were still dangerous on breakaways, with Tacettin in search of his hat trick coming close on two occasions just failing to latch onto through balls. Full Time score 0-2.
SUMMING UP :
One swallow doesn’t make a summer they say, so we won’t get carried away too much yet. This was almost a perfect performance against a team that were playing “Supa League“ football last season, Bostancı were very disappointing. An impressive start by the new Coach and team, who all played their part and contributed to a fine team performance. Tacettin quite rightly stole the plaudits by scoring both goals, as I said before this guy looks to have lots of goals in him. He reminds me in the way he plays and even looks like Paul Randall, a prolific goalscorer for my team Bristol Rovers in the 70s and 80s. Hüseyin and Uğurcan were outstanding in midfield and Firat Kulle in defence had a very strong game. Can’t find fault with anyone, bravo team let’s build on this good start.
ESENTEPE TEAM (replacement in brackets, merit marks out of 10, 4-4-1-1 system)

ESENTEPE NEXT MATCH :
ESENTEPE KKSK v OZANKÖY SK.
Saturday October 29th :Kick off : 3-30pm : Home : at Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.
BOSTANCI BAĞIL SK v ESENTEPE KKSK.
Venue : Bostancı Yakup Özorun Stadi.
At long last Esentepe’s season begins on Saturday, when they face a long trip to Bostancı in what is a tough opening fixture for them. It has seemed like a lifetime ago when Esentepe players returned to training on August 1st. Since then they have played 9 friendly matches in an extended pre season. This is due to League 1 being restructured for Season 2016/17 only. The League has been divided into 2 groups Beyaz (white) and Kırmızı (red), Esentepe are drawn in the white group. Which comprises of 11 teams with the red group having 10 teams.
The teams that finish in first place in both groups will automatically be promoted to the Supa League (Premier).
Teams that finish 2nd and 3rd in either group will play each other in the play offs to decide on the 3rd team being promoted to the Supa League.
The last 3 teams in each group are automatically relegated. Teams that finish 5/6/7 and 8th will play in a relegation play off to decide who will be the 4th team relegated.
Only the team that finishes in 4th place in the Beyaz league will not be involved in either promotion or relegation battles. Sounds complicated well this is Cyprus, it will be extremely hard for teams this season and ideally teams must really be looking for a top 4 place.
Esentepe are capable of achieving this as I believe they have a stronger squad than they had last season. They also have a new Coach, an“outsider” in Davut Kansu , 43 years old and this is his first major Coaching job. He was, I understand, in his day a very impressive player, and what I have seen of him will be an impressive Coach.
Unusually for Esentepe they have been active in the transfer market and have signed four new players. Striker Tacettin Kise 25, Defenders Firat Kulle 30, Mehmet Bebek 30 and wide midfielder Resat Genç 24 years old.
I have been very impressed by Tacettin and Firat. Tacettin looks like a player that will score goals on a regular basis, something that Esentepe has lacked over the past couple of seasons. Firat is a very tall defender signed from Görneç, and is very strong and has linked up well with the dependable Nersin in the centre of the defence.
Also returning to the Club after loan spells are goalkeeper Ali Karal, and midfielders Hüseyin Ermiş and Uğurcan Başayak all talented players.
All these players combined with the experience existing players Başak, Umar, Eser, İlyas, Emrah and up and coming youngster Mahmut, Emre Soytürk, the Coach should have enough talent at his disposal to finish in the top 4.
Bostancı were relegated last season from the “Supa league” and have undergone major surgery during the summer, letting go and bringing in a number of players.
Being the first match of the season and not knowing how good Bostancı’s pre season has gone, it is very hard to assess how this match will end. If you are an away team and facing opposition that has been relegated from a higher League you will be quite happy to come away with a point, that is what I predict.
Bostancı is not far from Güzelyurt, once you arrive in Bostancı the Stadium is very difficult to find through a maze of side streets, but you can find it on Google maps.
