Result : ESENTEPE KKSK 1 GÖNYELI SK 3
Saturday 21 October : K-Pet League 1 : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadı
An inspired tactical substitution by Gönyeli Coach Emre Perçinci turned this game on its head. The substitute Velat Çelik delivered a two goal salvo which struck Esentepe amidship and a further hit on target from Okan resulted in Esentepe sinking without a trace.
Saturday May 20th: BTM League Group 3: Venue : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.
On a windswept chilly afternoon Bahçeli were blown away by a competent Görneç team and now really their chances of reaching the qualifying stages look remote.
Being a local “Derby” match a largish crowd was attracted to this fixture despite a gale force wind blowing around the ground.
Bahçeli won the toss and had the benefit of the wind behind them but failed to capitalise on it and it proved a hindrance rather than a benefit. Their “dead ball” attempts were feeble and they produced only one shot on goal from distance.
Görneç looked useful up front with the burly Arda linking up well with his fellow striker Hüseyin.
The striker who is a “man mountain” gave the Bahçeli defence a really hard time. ARDA opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Levent did well to keep the ball in on the right passed to Hüseyin who in turn passed it to his striking partner Arda who fired a shot past Tuğrul. 0-1.
For the remainder of the half Bahçeli “huffed and puffed” but could not blow the Görneç house down.
That man ARDA did damage again in the 54th minute when good work by Levent who sent in a low cross where it was met by the Görneç striker who turned it past Tuğrul.
Bahçeli then had a “purple patch” led by substitute Aydın and made a spirited attempt to get back in the game. They were rewarded in the 59th minute when they managed to pull a goal back. From a free kick just outside the area, taken by Sınan, who put in a good shot which rebounded down off the Görneç crossbar to AYDIN who prodded it in. 1-2.
This gave Bahçeli heart, but having got back into the game they were caught cold by sloppy defending in the 63rd minute. A long ball glanced off the top of Bahçeli defender Abdullah’s head and straight into the path of LEVENT who sent in a low shot past a badly positioned Tuğrul.
FULL TIME: 1-3.
Görneç who were playing in the same League as Esentepe 2 seasons ago looked like a team who desperately want to regain their League status. They played as a team whereas Bahçeli relied on individuals. ARDA for Görneç was my “man of the match”, for a “big unit” he was surprisingly very mobile on the floor and would be a very useful signing for Esentepe.
For Bahçeli there were a number of useful performers, notably youngsters Emrah and Sınan, Substitute Aydın after coming on also made a difference in midfield.
BAHÇELI TEAM: Tuğrul (gk). Serdal, Emrah, Hasan, Raşit (Soner 56), Sınan (Yakup 71), Cafer (Aydın 27), Kazım, Abdullah, Uğurcan, Cemre.
Five municipalities in the Girne region have collectively organised cleaning up of the roadside and central reservation on the 24km route between Gönyeli roundabout and Alsancak roundabout.
With the approval of the Presidency, the environment clean-up and environmental protection project “Think Clean”, for the roadside and central reservation clean-up work has been completed on the 24km route between Gönyeli roundabout and Alsancak roundabout. Girne, Dikmen, Alsancak, Lapta and Esentepe Municipalities contributed to the campaign. Within the scope of the project, each municipality cleaned the grass alongside the road including the central reservation of the road of 4km length and collected garbage. Girne Municipality cleaning branch teams cleaned the part between St Hilarion Crossroad and Onar Village which is the main road entrance to Girne city under the responsibility of highways.
Güngördü: The problem is not cleaning, but pollution
Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü said that he is happy to cooperate with the Presidential Office and the Girne Region municipalities within the scope of the Think Clean Project. In order to ensure that the route most frequently used by tourists is clean. Güngördü stated that cleaning was done on the main road extending from the Nicosia junction to the Alsancak junction in the framework of the suggestions made by the Municipalities in order to clean the route that the tourists use the most, and said that the Girne Municipality would cooperate with the other Municipalities. Pointing out that they aimed to raise awareness in society, Güngördü added that the original idea is to teach not to pollute and to educate the citizens not to pollute the environment.
When my wife and I came to Cyprus on holiday twice a year we often used to drive along the north coast. We noticed a multi coloured camper van that appeared to have been abandoned just outside Esentepe village. Each time we came her it seemed that the paint job had faded a bit, another window had been lost to the elements, and more rust had appeared.
For a year we have lived her permanently, and we drive past this vehicle every week. We’ve often wondered what the background to this camper van is?
I expect some probably consider it an eyesore, or a heap of rubbish, but over the years we’ve come to see it as a local landmark, something that is always present, yet changing over time. We’d be sorry to see it go, yet how long can it last?
Since we’ve been here we’ve asked several people about the van, but we’ve not met anyone who knows its history.
Can you throw any light on this? If so please send in a comment and we can share it with all our readers.
