Kyrenia Academy of Education and the Arts, Bellapais
We have received news from Stephanie Kuyucu of a new venture based in Bellapais, as part of the Kyrenia Academy, which will provide Holistic Development in Education, Music and the Arts for young people. Among the many programmes being offered there will be a ballet class and street dance for little ones, as well as a range of other classes for older children. There will also be tutoring in the English language, French and Maths.

Chrissie Oktekin and her canine family

In 2014 I wrote an article about Lily, a lovely dog who was abandoned in Turkey and was in danger of being shot by the locals. Lily was rescued by Pinar, a Turkish lady, and fortunately survived, and with the help of Karen Wren of the Turkish Animal Group (TAG) and Sonia Garnett of Gokova Animal Rescue, Chrissie Oktekin was able to move mountains to adopt Lily and bring her back to North Cyprus.

We were unable to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Ozanköy Pekmez Festival on Friday 25th August, but made our way up to the village on Saturday for the second evening’s entertainment, where Girne Mayor, Nidai Gűngördű and Ozanköy Mukhtar, Mustafa Uzun, were again present.

Çatom Koop, Dipkarpaz Women’s Group

During a recent visit to the Karpaz for a previously arranged appointment, we took the opportunity of also meeting up with Eva Selwood who had contacted us regarding Çatom Koop, a women’s group which had been formed in Dipkarpaz by Arzu Pürtül. We had a bit of difficulty in locating Eva’s house but suddenly found ourselves at the building from which Çatom Koop operates, so we stopped to talk to the ladies there, who made us very welcome. We telephoned Eva and she soon arrived to greet us.

Reading in Cyprusscene the letters Mr Richard Chamberlain wrote to UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary (click here) and the reply he has had is of very significant importance to the Turkish Cypriot people. I would strongly recommend that since Cyprusscene is the front runner in this promotion it should go one more step and send the UK’s Foreign Secretary’s department answering email to every TRNC Ministry including the President and the TC’s Minister responsible for Cyprus affairs and also the Turkish Ambassador.
