Chef´s Choice – Homemade BBQ-Sauces
Tomato Sauce with Bacon
Summertime is BBQ time. And a good barbecue meal tradtionally includes delicious sauces. Of course, nowadays you can find a wide range of prefabricated sauces in the supermarket shelves, but it’s also fun to create your own sauces. To give you readers a few suggestions, I publish a little series of quick and easy recipes for homemade barbecue sauces.
Your imagination has no limits, changing and complementing the recipes to your taste!
- 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 50 g bacon, diced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 50 g brown sugar
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 200 g canned tomatoes
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcester Sauce
- chili powder
- paprika powder
- Tabasco sauce
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the bacon until it´s crispy.
Sprinkle all with brown sugar and let the sugar caramelize.
Reduce heat and stir in the vinegar, tomato paste and canned tomatoes.
Season with mustard, chili powder and paprika powder. Add Worcester sauce and some drops of Tabasco sauce to your taste.
By using vinegar and sugar, the BBQ sauce is durable and can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days.
