For all people interested in sound recording of all genres, on Wednesday 30th September Dr. Mike Earles will be giving an illustrated talk on the ‘History of Recorded Sound’ from 1888. It will take place at Mountain View Hotel starting at 7.30pm and will include displays of many unique and interesting items including early ‘Gramophone and Typewriter Company’ (pre His Master’s Voice) single sided shellac records, 1930’s picture records, a shellac record of the original BBC Abdication speech, an original HMV commercial record of Churchill’s speeches and many more exciting records together with related catalogues and books such as The Gramophone Jubilee Book 1923-1973. A fascinating subject especially as vinyl is now making a big comeback on the commercial music scene! Tesco’s are now selling vinyl records and others are following!
