Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman
Outgoing and Incoming
By Margaret Sheard…..
We were very pleased and honoured to be invited to the dinner at the Dome Hotel in Girne on the occasion of the handover to the new President of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman for the year 2015/16. Malcolm Mitcheson, the outgoing President has achieved so much with his team during his one year term and he has now handed over the role to Hakki Muftuzade.
The event was held in the Fireplace Room of the Dome Hotel which was beautifully laid out and decorated for the occasion and we shared a table with other British guests.
Malcolm Mitcheson and Mustafa Guryel (Sargeant at Arms) welcomed the guests and following the lovely meal, there were speeches and information about the achievements of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman which, among many others, has included the presentation of a wheelchair accessible patient transport vehicle for the new Renal Dialysis Unit at Dr Akcicek Hospital in Kyrenia. This was achieved with help from Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services, the Little Society of Kyrenia, Donors from UK Rotary, Jessic Bar & Restaurant, Acapulco Hotel, Iktisat Bank, Niyazi Aydeniz and Friends of Rotary. Awards were then made to many members for their work for the Club, see these in the slideshow below.
Two of the guests at our table were Mustafa Aziz and his wife Karen. I had a chat with Karen who told me she met Mustafa in London and they were married in 1977, they eventually moved permanently to North Cyprus in 2008. They are well known for their restaurant Jessic’s Restaurant and Bar in Karşiyaka which is now run by their son. They are keen supporters of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman and during the year hosted an Auction and Raffle at Jessic’s where 6,625TL was raised towards the patient vehicle for the hospital.
A celebration cake arrived which was cut by Malcolm Mitcheson and Hakki Muftuzade and then Malcolm handed over the chain of office to Hakki. Hakki gave a speech, thanking Malcolm for his assistance and guidance for his role as President and he hopes he will be able to follow the good work that Malcolm has achieved during the past year and he aims to concentrate on increasing the image of Rotary as well as recruiting new members. Hakki said in his speech “Significant steps were made during Malcolm Mitcheson’s Presidency and a lot of the credit must go to Amanda Fiora who will also assist us in this endeavour during my Presidency”.
We would like to wish Hakki every success as President of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman for the year 2015/16.
The guests were given a lovely Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman magazine of 2014-15 in pictures and we have reproduced this as a PDF file to share with our readers who in turn can share it with their friends click here. The magazine shows the many members and supporters of the Club and also some of the many splendid projects it has achieved.
