20th OF JULY PEACE AND FREEDOM DAY HAS BEEN CELEBRATED
EROĞLU:“TRNC IS THE CONCRETE SHAPE OF FREEDOM AND SAFETY AND THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSEQUENCE OF 2OTH OF JULY PEACE OPERATION’’
President of the Republic, Derviş Eroğlu said that TRNC was the concrete shape of freedom and safety and the most important consequence of the 20th of July Peace Operation.
Having made a speech at the ceremony taking place at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard within the scope of 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day celebrations, Eroğlu remarked that the existence of the government was the greatest power and no one should speak against and make it seem less important. He also added that he remembers how North Cyprus was born after 1974 very clearly.
Eroğlu emphasized that having celebrated the 39th year of the 20th of July Peace Operation in the month of Ramadan, made it more meaningful.
Stressing that the 20th of July Peace Operation was the beginning of a new period not only for the Turkish Cypriots but also for Turkey, the President of the Republic Derviş Eroğlu said: ‘Turkey has proven her determination by the Cyprus Turkish Peace Operation.”
Eroğlu also added that 20th of July has brought peace also to Greece and the Greek Cypriot Community by opening a door to democracy and saving them from junta and EOKA and said : “If there was an invention in Cyprus, that had been realized by the Greek Cypriots ”Mentioning the Cyprus issue and the appointment of Nikos Anastasiades as the leader Eroğlu indicated that Anastasiades’s policy would be no different than the previous ones.
‘Either there will be a solution or they will not close our way anymore. Like all the other issues going on in the world, Turkish Cypriots should be given a chance and opportunity.’ told Eroğlu.
“The Greek Cypriot National Council evaluated their diplomacy with a meeting on Tuesday. It is clear that Nikos Anastasiades who was appointed to the leadership of the Greek Cypriot Administration in February and who has said that he would not make any negotiation until October, shall be no different than the previous negotiators. Greek Cypriot leaders can change, but their diplomacy never changes. We have been always waiting to see if by chance their mentality changes, but it has been proven again that it is not going to happen.”
Eroğlu said that the Greek Cypriot Leader Anastasiades gave all the power to the National Council.
‘’20TH OF JULY PAVED THE WAY FOR DEMOCRACY’’
Eroğlu has addressed the people as:“My fellow brothers and sisters, Turkish Cypriot Community, I am calling out again here one more time that the 20th of July 1974 Peace Operation is not an invasion. The existence of the Turkish Army here is not an invasion.”
Having said that Greek Cypriots had turned the jointly-formed Cyprus Government into an Hellenic Government by force of arms, Eroğlu expressed that the Greek Cypriots wanted to make Cyprus a part of Greece.
Eroğlu said that having a look at the news in the Greek Cypriot media, it can be seen why they are not willing for negotiations for a solution and why they still dream of Cyprus before 1974.

We are supporting all the attempts that will be made from this moment in order to solve the Cyprus issue that is now in its 50th year and putting our faith in a same sincere manner of Greek Cypriots and a fast solution.
