Minister Ertuğruloğlu attends OIC Baghdad summit

Foreign Affairs Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu attended the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), of which the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is an observer member.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the session, which was held in Baghdad, the capital of the Republic of Iraq, on 17–18 October under the theme of “Dialogue and Solidarity”.

Addressing the participants on behalf of the TRNC Government and the Turkish Cypriot people at the session, Minister Ertuğruloğlu conveyed important messages to the international community and OIC member states regarding the rightful cause of the Turkish Cypriot people, the unjust and inhumane embargoes imposed on them and the current vision of the Turkish Cypriot people for a settlement.

Ertuğruloğlu called upon the member states of the OIC to take concrete and timely steps to end the unjust isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.

Not another 50 years negotiating

Emphasizing that on the Cyprus issue they do not wish to waste another 50 years to negotiate on an exhausted model, Minister Ertuğruloğlu stated, “The reality of the island of Cyprus is one island, two states.”

Within the framework of the session Minister Ertuğruloğlu participated in the official family photography and attended a luncheon hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, in honor of the heads of delegation.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu also attended an official dinner hosted by Prime Minister of Iraq Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi in honor of the heads of delegation of member and observer countries, where he exchanged views with representatives of other states.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Ertuğruloğlu held bilateral talks, including a meeting with OIC Secretary-General İsmail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, with whom he had held a comprehensive meeting last month in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu was accompanied on his visit to Baghdad by Ministry diplomats.
