Starting off the year there will be a continuation of last year’s “The Older They Get”, a new situation comedy by Phil Lucock entitled “Still Getting Older” which features the same 4 characters, as usual in all kinds of bother and a hilarious visit to a local cricket match.
This performance is directed by June Lucock and will be at the Pia Bella Hotel, Girne on Friday 12th May and Friday 19th May. Invitations are 65TL per person, which includes a 3-course dinner, and are available at Lambousa Saturday Market, The Food Lodge in Catalkoy or by telephoning 0533 848 5313.
And there’s more….
KADS will be at the Pia Bella again in the autumn but this time with 3 short comedies, one of them a never recorded short by Ronnie Barker called “Rub a Dub”, another Ronnie Barker offering, ” At The Bar” and a comedy written in part by KADS members Beverley Westbrook and Lisa Server, “The Complete Works Of Shakespeare in 15 Minutes”.
There will also be 2 radio plays this year, “15” which will be directed by Diana Peek and “The Protestors” written and directed by Phil Lucock. These will of course be broadcast by Bayrak International and produced by Can Gazi.
Finally, KADS will be at the Pia Bella just before Christmas with their annual “Christmas Who Dunnit”, once again written and directed by Beverley and called “Christmas Cracker”.
It looks as though KADS are going to be very busy with rehearsals through the year for all these performances but there is a lot to look forward to and of course Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) and SOS Children’s Village benefit from the proceeds of all KADS performances.
KADS cordially invite you to join them for a festive presentation of “The Ice Palace Hotel”. A seasonal “Who Dunnit” set against the backdrop of the glamorous and thrilling world of Formula One Reindeer Racing.
The performances will be at The Pia Bella Hotel, Girne on Thursday 1st December and Wednesday 7th December 2016, and will commence at 7pm. There are 120 invitations available at 60TL per person which will include a three course Christmas Dinner (or vegetarian option) and a glass of mulled wine.

A perfect gift for any occasion, the puzzles form a map of Cyprus and come in adult and child versions. Proceeds from sales of each set will be donated to SOS Children’s Village.
The 50-piece colourful child version contains city names in Turkish and English, and is a fun way to teach children about the island in the different languages.

I went along to the dress rehearsal by the Kyrenia Amateur Dramatic Society (KADS) of the repeat performance of the situation comedy “The Older They Get” which will be performed at the Pia Bella Hotel in Girne on Thursday and Friday 29th and 30th September.
Having seen the previous version of this comedy I was very surprised at how fresh the performance came over even though the dialogue was virtually the same but this was due to an almost completely new cast so the interpretation and presentation made it very different and extremely funny. The new cast is Nicky Montgomery, Beverley Westbrook, Don Attwood and Stephen Everett, Edward Harrison and the one original performer is Deborah Bahadır.
Briefly, so as not to spoil the plot for those who will be attending the new performance, the comedy is about 4 residents of St Kads, Elsie, Marjorie, Larry and Reg and their various conversations during which Marjorie gets the wrong end of the stick most of the time. The acts are at different times of the day and include a “Magical Mystery Tour” for the residents and their nurse. The dialogue throughout, which was written by Phil Lucock, is very amusing and entertaining.
This was a dress rehearsal so apart from myself, to record the occasion, and Nicky Montgomery’s mother there was no-one else there and no audience but June Lucock was there to make sure everyone was word perfect, which they were. There are a couple of additional features which have been added to the performance – introduction music to each of the acts and a narration for each act by Caroline Attwood.
The evening’s entertainment will be 60TL per person which includes a 3-course meal and of course the KADS comedy performance. Those people who will be attending should arrive by 6.30pm as the show will start at 7pm.
Invitations can be obtained from the Food Lodge in Catalkoy or for further information telephone 0533 848 5313.
If you have already seen “The Older They Get” it is well worth seeing again but if you have not I would recommend a really good evening of entertainment from KADS.

The Anglo-Turkish Association of Northern Cyprus (ATA) committee members visited SOS Children’s Village last Tuesday (May 17) to see a cinema room, which was created with ATA’s funding.
After funding the renovation of manhole covers and rainwater pipes at SOS Children’s Village in 2015, a new projector and related equipment was purchased using the remainder of the £500 from last year’s project for a new cinema room.
As well as purchasing the projection materials, which cost 1,695TL, the ATA also donated an air conditioning unit, which was installed in the cinema room of House 13 of the Village in Lefkoşa. Offering a space for SOS families to watch films together, the room is also used for children’s lessons, activities, and staff presentations and training workshops.
ATA Chairman Pearl Mitchell and Secretary Jewel Pearce got to see the room in action during their visit, as it was being used by student volunteers from Near East University who were teaching children about environmental awareness.
Fundraising and Public Relations Officer Şirin Damdelen presented the ATA officials with a certificate of appreciation.
“It was so nice for ATA to see the room in action,” said Şirin Damdelen. “We thank ATA for their loyal support and belief in SOS Children’s Village. This kind of support is an investment in the future generation and the community,” she added.
Namık Kemal High School funded the purchase of a projector screen, with some of the 700TL collected at a bring and buy sale. Last month, teacher Zühal Mustafaoğulları and students Cansu Çakıcı and Gülcem Bekayi from the school in Famagusta visited SOS Children’s Village, where they were presented with a certificate of appreciation.
