Famagusta completes five-day sterilisation drive for strays
Famagusta Municipality and international animal welfare organisation NETAP completed a five-day sterilisation campaign for stray animals from 12 to 16 May.
During the campaign, 317 animals were treated, including 214 dogs and 103 cats. Alongside sterilisation, the animals received vaccinations, parasite treatment, and microchips before being returned to their original areas after recovery.
The effort was led by Veterinarian Burak Toksoy and Municipal Council Member Ufuk Umay, with support from NETAP veterinarian Lisa Goldinger and municipal veterinarian İlke S. Soyer.
Officials said regular sterilisation programmes are important for protecting animal health, preventing uncontrolled population growth, and improving long-term welfare conditions for strays.
The municipality stated that it will continue projects to control the stray animal population, improve shelter conditions, and encourage adoption.
Famagusta Municipality stated that it will continue to work with local and international stakeholders to support healthy living conditions for stray animals, prevent uncontrolled population growth, and enhance animal welfare.
