ARUCAD Celebrates 2024–2025 Academic Year Graduation

Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) celebrated the graduation of 80 students at the 2024–2025 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, July 3rd, at the university’s campus in Kyrenia. This fourth graduation ceremony saw students from the fields of art, design, and communication receive their diplomas amidst applause from their families and academicians.

ARUCAD, known for its art-focused boutique university structure, hosted the event with notable attendees, including the university’s Founder, Erbil Arkin, Board of Trustees Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Arkin, and Rector Prof. Dr. Asim Vehbi, along with academic and administrative staff and the students’ families. The ceremony, held outdoors in the university garden, featured performances by academics and students from the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, creating a friendly and intimate atmosphere.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, followed by students being invited to the stage. Oscar Okezie, a student from the Department of Film Design and Management, delivered a heartfelt speech representing the graduates. He reflected on the challenges faced during their university journey, particularly the pandemic, and emphasized that graduation marks the beginning of new, unwritten stories. Okezie inspired his peers with his words, “Today, we are not just graduates; we are the architects of vision, the carriers of untold stories.”

The evening was enriched with artistic performances. The Modern Dance Department faculty members, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamara McCarty, Lecturer Yıldız Güventürk, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İnal Bilsel performed “Dream On,” which received great applause. Dance department students Tuğçe Tekhanlı and Simay Ekin presented “Zaha,” inspired by Zaha Hadid’s architecture, while Ayşe Göknil’s solo performance of “Joy” added emotional depth. Efe Sağıroğulları’s percussion performance to Nicolas Martynciow’s composition “Truc à trac” brought an energetic touch to the ceremony.

Art is not a luxury,

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Arkın highlighted the importance of creativity in shaping the future. He addressed the graduates, emphasizing their responsibility to use their creativity for cultural change and to offer hope through art. “Art is not a luxury, it is a necessity. It reminds us of our common humanity, questions power, and offers hope. And you are the ones who will carry this hope,” he said.

Erbil Arkın: “ARUCAD, The Biggest Step of My Life and Career”

Founder Erbil Arkın expressed his pride and commitment to the university, describing ARUCAD as the most significant project of his life and career. He encouraged the graduates to continue living the philosophy of ARUCAD and to never compromise on quality. He also thanked the families of the students for their support.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of diplomas to the top students by Erbil Arkın and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Arkın. It was noted that all top students are guaranteed a job within ARUCAD or the ARKIN Group. Rector Prof. Dr. Asım Vehbi emphasized that graduation is a new beginning and highlighted the privilege of being an ARUCAD graduate. He thanked the academic staff for instilling knowledge, responsibility, and ethical values in the students.

The event ended with the traditional cap throwing ceremony, symbolizing the culmination of the students’ hard work and dedication. The night concluded with a DJ performance, leaving everyone with a sense of accomplishment and joy.
