Hot Glass and Painting Students’ Exhibition At ARUCAD

Atelier Arkın 2024 Hot Glass and Painting Students’ Exhibition Presented at ARUCAD Art Gallery

Atelier Arkın, operating as the Lifelong Learning Centre of the Arkın Creative Arts and Design University (ARUCAD), held the opening reception of its 11th Student Exhibition on the evening of 3rd October 2024 at the ARUCAD Art Gallery. The exhibition, which opened with a musical performance, showcased the works of art students, along with 15 different glass artworks from the Hot Glass Workshop.

The glass artworks were designed and produced by Glass Artist Mete Bahtiyar Karataş at the ARUCAD Glass Workshop, using entirely recycled waste glass. The pieces draw attention to the environmentally friendly aspect of glass art while being presented to art lovers with an aesthetic and innovative approach.

In the painting section, the students’ works began with charcoal sketches and progressed to coloured pieces. These works reflect the students’ developmental process, and the exhibition is regarded as a “Development Exhibition.” Tekin Can Göntürk led the painting courses, during which two students earned the right to study at ARUCAD.

In his speech at the opening of the exhibition, ARUCAD Vice-Rector Assist. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Dalkılıç stated, “Lifelong learning begins at an individual’s birth and continues until the day they close their eyes to life. The knowledge acquired by the individual and the interactions they engage in play a key role in the societal development process. With this exhibition, we see that Atelier Arkın, which we established in the early days of ARUCAD, holds the potential to be a key building block in the arts and social progress in Cyprus. The glass artworks on display are made entirely from recycled glass, serving as an important symbol for a sustainable future and our diminishing resources.”

Glass Artist Mete Bahtiyar Karataş explained how he recycles glass during his speech, while Tekin Can Göntürk expressed his emotions by saying, “It is a source of pride to showcase our students’ work.”

Atelier Arkın continues to serve art lovers with a wide range of educational offerings that can meet both individual and institutional training needs, providing nearly 50 courses and workshops. The Hot Glass and Painting Students’ Exhibition will be open to visitors at the ARUCAD Art Gallery until 11th October 2024, between 10:00 and 16:00.
