The Girne Municipality has initiated a comprehensive documentary project called, simply, ‘Girne.’ Directors Derya and Ali Atamer will be in charge of capturing the city’s story through the eyes of all Girnelis, whether born in Girne, migrated to Girne, or chosen to live in Girne. With a duration of approximately 90 minutes, the documentary will be the first feature-length documentary film recording the City. The filming of the documentary, set to begin in February 2024, aims for its premiere during the 2024 Girne Festival.
Covering various elements from Girne’s businesses to its historical values, from figures integrated with Girne to its festivals, the documentary will comprehensively delve into Girne’s villages and the Turkish Quarter. The most crucial aspect of the documentary will be the inclusion of individuals who have shaped the city, from the elderly to the young, and those whose names are engraved in the city’s memory.
