North Cyprus Football : Lambs to the Slaughter, Tatlisu routed again

By Richard Beale……….

The BTM League  recommenced after a short break, but the story was no different for bottom Club Tatlısu as they were put to the sword by runaway leaders who repeated their score when they visited Tatlısu in the opening match of the season.

Sunday March 28 : BTM League Red Group : venue : Turunçlu Hasan Bardakko Stadı

During the mini break Tatlısu lost a couple of their better players transferred to other Clubs, for this match they brought in 3 new players, the very experienced Murat Elçil, Musa and Halıl Ibrahim. But the new signings could not prevent Tatlısu from suffering another heavy defeat. It was asking a lot to get anything at the League leaders home ground, Mesarya are a very impressive and well organised team, who will go up as Champions and should have no difficulty in competing in the K-Pet League 1 next season.

Under the guidance of their impressive young Coach MEHMET EMİN ZAİM who has instilled a great team spirit and camaraderie into his team, I am very impressed how he conducts himself. When I asked, can I take a team photo, he said yes but I also want all my backroom staff in the photo as they all have contributed. Also I noticed that when he makes a substitution, he always thanks the player coming off for his contribution, a gesture that is sadly lacking over here.

Anyway back to the match held on a glorious sunny Sunday morning Tatlısu held at Mesarya bay for the opening 15 minutes, before Mesarya clicked into gear and overran the bottom Club.

Tatlısu’s cause was not helped when their young Goalkeeper Kurşat suffered a re-occurrence of his groin injury which has troubled him for a while. His movements were very limited and obviously he was in great pain, he bravely carried on and prevented Mesarya running away with the game in the first half. Having no replacement keeper on the bench, he eventually limped off after Mesarya had scored their fourth goal and centre back Barış donned the keepers jersey.

Mesarya striker HİTMET ÇELİKEL (red) scorer of 2 goals

20 mins: Ogun cross was headed in by the League’s leading goalscorer HIKMET.

35 mins : From a Hasan Büke cross from the right EREN produced a spectacular overhead kick to score, which would have graced any League.

45 mins : Right on the stroke of Half Time from a Ögun corner HASAN BÜKE got the faintest of touches at the near post to score.

49 mins : Following a rare Tatlısu attack, Mesarya broke quickly to the other end Hikmet squared the ball across to EREN to score his second goal. This was the end for goalkeeper Kurşat and he limped off.

With some desperate defending, bad finishing and some unconventional saves by replacement keeper Barış, Tatlısu managed to keep down the score until the final 5 minutes when Mesarya ran riot again.

87 mins : Substitute FIRAT weaved his way round a static Tatlısu defence to shoot past Baris.

88 mins : HIKMET broke quickly past a non exist ant Tatlısu defence to finish clinically and record his 13th goal of the season.

Tatlisu under pressure again

Mesarya have some fine players, Hikmet, Umut, Eren and Captain Volkan Tatlısu were easily outclassed and offered no threat upfront.

Tatlısu problems are that they have no forwards, so they cannot retain any measure of possession for any length of time, the ball just keeps coming back and it puts pressure on their defence.

There were some positives, the new signing of 39 year old veteran Murat will be of great benefit to the side. He assumed the role of Captain and used all of his experience, encouraging his team. Hakan at right back also put in a tidy shift. Asil Arif wide on the left also kept going in difficult circumstances. I thought Tatlısu’s best player was TALHA who was often Tatlısu’s only attacker, he ran himself into the ground.

Next Tatlisu home match on Sunday April 1st ko 1-00pm Tatlisu v Kumyali at the Rauf Rauf Denktaş stadı.
