Result : Esentepe Kksk 0 Düzkaya Kosk 1
Friday September 2nd 2016 @ Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium
After weeks of slogging around the outside of the pitch, Esentepe played hosts to a friendly match with near neighbours Düzkaya (They play behind Tempo in Catalköy). A good relationship exists between the two Clubs, Esentepe players Ali, Hüseyin and Uğurcan were on loan to Düzkaya last season and Düzkaya are managed by Ex-Esentepe Coach Cemal Kir.
In very hot and sultry conditions both sides provided good first half entertainment which at times was very competitive, with Esentepe just shading the half. Against the run of play Düzkaya took a 13th minute lead when a cross from the right appeared to be handled by a Düzkaya forward, with Esentepe expecting the referee to blow for the offence, they switched off and the forward in question scored with an overhead kick.
Earlier Esentepe were the most prominent team, with 17 year old Hurkan leading the line, the teenager was just beaten to the ball by the Düzkaya keeper following a powerful run from Mehmet. The striker had the ball in the net following a good run and cross from Mahmut, but he was adjudged offside.
After the Düzkaya goal Esentepe continued to string together some fine moves, with Başak having a header saved. Esentepe’s best chance fell to Emrah, who won the ball in midfield, finding Başak on the right. Emrah continued running and was at the far post to meet Başak’s cross but prodded the ball wide from close range.
With the reliable and powerful left back Emek being transferred to Supa League side Binatli, Esentepe’s new coach Davut Kansu gave a trial to Mehmet, who I believe is a soldier living in Karaağaç. He did not disappoint and was the pick of the Esentepe team in the first half, like Emek powerful built, was strong in the tackle and also overlapped well, hopefully a straight replacement for Emek.
During the interval both teams made wholesale changes, giving their entire squads a run out. Esentepe included a number of “trialists” amongst them Ibrahim Çelik, who impressed me and others while playing for Tatlisu earlier in the summer.
With so many changes, understandably the game lost its shape and chances were few and far between.
Düzkaya had the best chance of the second half, when Esentepe’s replacement keeper Kürşat pulled off a stunning save, pushing the ball onto the bar following a close range header.
Esentepe tried hard but were mostly restricted to shots from outside the box which were easily dealt with by the Düzkaya keeper.
Still all in all a useful work-out for both teams, with the result unimportant.
Esentepe League season will not kick off until mid October, the League has been revamped with 2 groups, but with less matches to play. There will be a number of friendly matches before then and I will try to let you know when and where but sometimes these are arranged overnight!
