It’s The Late Late Show Again For Esentepe!

Esentepe for the third consecutive match scored in injury time, this occasion in form Karşiyaka were the victims as Esentepe came away with a shock win. Karşiyaka, who have won their last 4 matches, succumbed to a 92nd minute goal from substitute Başak.

Saturday February 27th 2016: K-Pet League 1 : Venue Karşiyaka Stadi.

Weather : Dry and sunny.

Karşiyaka Colours : Green/white stripe shirts, white shorts/socks.

Esentepe Colours : Red shirts, black shorts/socks.

Esentepe produced a gutsy performance with the defence producing a superb rear guard action. Both teams’ defences were on top as clear cut chances were few and far between. It was not a boring match though, as both teams produced a very competitive match at times some robust challenges came in.

In form Karşiyaka were let down by some wild and poor finishing, though to be fair, Tuğrul in the Esentepe goal was rarely troubled, protected by a strong defensive shield around him.

The first half Esentepe were the slightly better team, and Kemal in the Karşiyaka goal was the busier of the 2 goalkeepers. In the 13th minute Esentepe front men Emrah and Eser combined well together ending in an Eser shot that was parried by Kemal.

Karşiyaka first half chances all came at once in the 37th minute their winger Bayram cut inside and crossed to the near post where it took a brilliant interception by Esentepe’s Captain Berkan, sliding the ball away for a corner. From that corner an almighty scramble took place in the goal area, before the ball was finally scrambled away for another corner. From that corner from the left, a header went across the Esentepe goal and just past the far post.

In the second half Esentepe came under increasing pressure though Karşiyaka didn’t really create anything apart from a couple of free kicks that went over the bar.

In the 53rd minute Emek stung Kemal’s hands with a 25 yard free kick, which the goalkeeper was unable to catch, but the ball was hacked away. Esentepe’s Mahmut who was having a fine game in midfield, drove a couple of efforts wide.

Esentepe were working hard for each other, and it looked like the game would end in a 0-0 draw, until the 4th Official held up the board showing 3 minutes of injury time to be played, where Esentepe had other ideas. Muhammed was first to the ball in midfield clearing the ball upfield where it landed nicely for substitute Başak, who looked up and seeing the Karşiyaka keeper Kemal was slightly off his line produced an exquisite lob, which went over the keeper’s outstretched hand, the ball hit the crossbar and went back into play. Two Karşiyaka defenders made a hash of clearing the ball, which fell invitingly back to BAŞAK who volleyed home from close range. Once again for the 3rd match running this resulted in wild and jubilant celebrations from the players and the small band of supporters which had travelled from Esentepe. FULL TIME result : 0-1.

SUMMING UP :

Who needs to play for 90 minutes when you can win a game in injury time, which is becoming a habit! The last 3 matches have produced 3 injury time goals 7 out of 9 points have now considerably eased our relegation worries. Karşiyaka were a good, tough and uncompromising team, but Esentepe equalled them, and delivered the killer punch right at the end. Every one of the team contributed something, but it was the defence which took the honours. They blocked, tackled and threw their bodies in the way of anything that Karşiyaka threw at them. Bariş was the best just pipping Berkan and Nersin for the “man of the match“. Mahmut in midfield gave another energetic performance.
