It’s The Late Late Show Again For Esentepe

Last week Esentepe scored in the 93rd minute to secure a valuable point, this week Esentepe scored in the 92nd minute to earn 3 vital points.

As the players went through their warm up routine, lightning, thunder and rain made all the spectators huddle under the main stand for shelter. Luckily when the match started the inclement weather abated, but the surface was very greasy and tacky. Esentepe still missing İlyas, Burak and Baçak, were able to field a slightly stronger side with the return of Emek after suspension. Esentepe Coach Gokhan Kim gave a first full League game to 17 year old Muhammed Ali Karal, who lined up in midfield, after doing well as a substitute last week.

Esentepe started brightly and following a quick break Mehmet’s cross was deflected for a corner just in front of the in rushing Mahmut. From the corner taken by Umar on the left, Emrah in a good position on the far post, should have done much better but headed wide, with the goal at his mercy.

In the 27th minute a long cross from Emek was retrieved on the right by Mehmet who spotted Mahmut’s run into the box and passed to him but the midfielder shot horribly wide.

Esentepe were enjoying at least 75% of possession but against the run of play Hamıtköy scored with a breakaway goal in the 31st minute. Following some good interplay, between Hamadi and Metin, the former put in a shot which Esentepe keeper Tuğrul should have done better but could only parry back into the path of Mustafa Tatli who scored easily with the follow up shot . 0-1.
Hamitköy had now settled after the opening half hour and in midfield their veteran play maker the 40 year old Hamadi Ögütçe was beginning to pull the strings. HALF TIME : 0-1

The second half started but Esentepe seemed to have lost some of their earlier Zest, and they struggled to regain their tempo. However, out of the blue they equalised in the 58th minute, through teenager MEHMET. Eser had a shot charged down, then rebounded out to Mehmet on the wing. There seemed little danger when he cut inside the area on the right, before sending in a left footed shot into the far corner of the net. The Hamitköy keeper Tolga may have been distracted by Eser’s diving attempt to head the shot and appeared to react too late. Score 1-1

Mehmet was in action again when speeding down the right he sent over a great cross to the far post. Esentepe’s Umar was in a good position where he sent in a downward header only to see Tolga in the Hamitköy goal, pull off a great save deflecting the ball for a corner with his legs. From the resulted corner, Nersin lurking on the edge of the goal area sent in a strong left footed shot just wide.

After this Esentepe purple patch, it was Hamitköy’s turn to have one. They were awarded a free kick wide on the left following a foul by Berkan. Galip took the kick from 30 yards out where it struck the Esentepe cross bar and rebounded back in play. Then in the 83rd minute they had another chance through their best player Hamadi, who started the move and nearly scored when receiving a return pass, screwing his shot just wide of the near post as Nersin challenged.

Both teams seemed to accept that the game would end in a draw as we entered 4 minutes of injury time, when Emek on the left sent over a deep cross to the far post where it was met by the newly wedded ESER to score with a header that went over the body of the diving Tolga and into the net at the near post, to send the players and fans into wild celebrations. Score 2-1.

Before the final whistle Hamitköy had Eyüp red carded for a second offence, and he had to be escorted off the pitch as he tried to remonstrate with the referee. FULL TIME : 2-1

SUMMING UP : A thoroughly deserved win and more importantly 3 very vital points especially as the bottom three teams all lost. We now move above Hamitköy in 9th place on 20 points, and the win has given us some breathing space as we have some difficult matches coming up against top 6 sides.

We are lacking in creativity but full marks to the players, what they lack in skill they make up for in effort. The defence looked more secure with once again Nersin outstanding, he reads the game well, is always first to intercept, he had a fine game. I was impressed with Muhammed in his first full game in midfield he put himself about but understandably faded as the game went on. His partner in midfield Mahmut was full of energy and running. Upfront the partnership of Emrah and Eser worked well together, with some good touches.
