Esentepe Lose Friendly Match to Ozanköy

Saturday January 16th 2016. Friendly at Ozanköy Mustafa Özkayim Stadium.

On a sunny but cold Saturday afternoon League 2 side Ozanköy deservedly won over their League 1 opponents Esentepe.

Due to transfers, injuries and work commitments a much changed Esentepe side took to the field giving a first team opportunity to young 16 year old striker Emre Soytürk. This was Esentepe’s first match without their star player Kağan Görneçli who has been transferred to Supa League side Değirmenlik on loan to the end of the season. For Kağan it’s a great move and hopefully the 20,000TL we received for him will not be wasted or squandered.

Esentepe ve Ozankoy 2

A scrappy first half brought few thrills with Ozanköy being the better of the 2 sides. They came closest to scoring in the 44th minute when striker Zeki beautifully wrong footed his marker to send a shot crashing against the post. Half Time 0-0.,

Both teams made a number of changes at Half-time, but it was Ozanköy who started the second half the better team. They took the lead in the 52nd minute following a break down the right by their No 6 who put in a high cross, where their striker No 21 lobbed the advancing Esentepe keeper Kurşat who appeared to hesitate as he came out. 1-0.

Esentepe ve Ozankoy 1

It was 2-0 in the 63rd minute following another breakaway and cross from the right, Bekir nipped in to rob the ball from Esentepe Captain Berkan, who immediately pulled up clutching his knee. Bekir continued into the area before squaring the ball across to No 21 to score easily. 2-0.

At last Esentepe roused themselves and had a purple patch from the 67th minute onwards firstly Mahmut put in a shot high over the bar, a minute later Emek put in a better effort shooting fiercely over the bar. Esentepe continued to rally and pulled a goal back in the 69th minute when EMRAH scored a fine goal. From an Emek cross from the left, the striker committed his marker before steadying himself to crack a fine shot past Mehmedemin. 2-1.

Ozanköy had a goal disallowed in the 76th minute for offside when the dangerous No 21 (whoever he is) headed in a free kick.

Esentepe ve Ozankoy 3

Esentepe were desperately striving for the equaliser, substitute Tuğrulşan made a strong clearance with his head to give Emrah a half chance, but the striker was driven wide but could only shoot past the near post.

In the 87th minute a cracking Mehmet volley brought the save of the match of the Ozanköy keeper Mehmedemin who dived to his left to parry Mehmet’s shot.

In injury time Esentepe’s last chance came and went, when Emek sent a fierce free kick just over the Ozanköy bar. Full Time : 2-1.

Summing up : A good work out for both teams, Ozanköy played some nice close passing football where Esentepe relied on the long through ball. The match came at a cost to Esentepe they lost defender Salih with a groin injury and Captain Berkan limped off with a re-occurrence of his knee injury. Nersin was the pick of the Esentepe players and Umar playing on the left put in a good shift. I understand there is another friendly match which will be at home next Saturday. At the moment I do not know against who. Details to follow.
