End of Year Party

We attended the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman End of Year Party which was held at the Dome Hotel in Girne and was a get-together of Rotarians and guests for drinks and canapés.  On arrival we were greeted by the current Chairman – Hakki Műftűzade and his wife Behiye and we then went on to speak to some of the other people present at the event.

The Dome staff were busily topping up glasses while we helped ourselves to the delicious assortment of canapés beautifully arranged on the many cocktail tables around the room and every now and again the staff were also serving hot canapés.

We always find the Rotarians to be very friendly and welcoming and we spent a lot of time with one gentleman who told us quite a bit about himself and we will be catching up with him again soon to hear more of his life and experiences.    We met another elderly gentleman who has also said he would like to talk to us and he also has a lot to offer about life in Cyprus, past and present    Having recently written an account of the interesting life of Hakki Műftűzade’s father – Ömer Faik Műftűzade OBE, QGM, we have also planned to write Hakki’s own story of his varied and interesting life.  It seems we are going to be very busy in the New Year!   To see the article about Ömer Faik Műftűzade click here

There was entertainment by 2 performers who provided lovely background music which allowed the guests to be able to easily have conversations.   There was also a raffle with many prizes and this was drawn later in the evening, following speeches of welcome and good wishes from the Chairman and ladies from the Rotary Girne Inner Wheel.

We spent a few very pleasant hours in the company of some very interesting people in lovely surroundings and we wish all Rotarians, both in the island of Cyprus and throughout the world, continued success in 2016.
