Kyrenia Amateur Dramatic Society (KADS) – New production for 2015

Kyrenia Amateur Dramatic Society (KADS)

Forthcoming Production

By Margaret Sheard….

What an achievement!  KADS celebrate their 40th anniversary this year and are the first expatriate society to be formed in the TRNC.   To celebrate 40 years there will be a showcase production on the 7th, 8th and 9th May at the Kyrenia Municipality Cultural Centre theatre.  See our previous article by clicking here.

Cyprusscene was invited to join the players at one of their rehearsals recently and while we are not going to give too much away, we would like to give some advance information of what is going to be a wonderful show.

It was very sad to hear about the death of Lawrie Oxley, on 5th January this year, who had spent many years with KADS as their director and was responsible for many brilliant performances.  As they say in the theatre – “the show must go on” and under the directorship of Beverley Westbrook the production we can now look forward to is Absolute Kads and Bounders III.   For people who have seen the previous two shows in this series, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with version III.

When we arrived for the rehearsal we spoke with John Melville who does a great job as compére at KADS productions and he told us that the new show is 60% new material by John and Phil with some of the good old favourites being included again.  The KADS group, which now has 14 cast members, will have access to the Cultural Centre theatre shortly to be able to continue with their rehearsals and John told us that the theatre has recently undergone a spruce up and also now has new lighting and sound systems which should really enhance all future productions there.

The rehearsal we attended did not include all of the material for the show but the cast had brought some of their costumes for the occasion and some of the new sketches we saw had tears rolling down my face, so funny and definitely worth going to see the whole performance.

Ticket sales are going well with Saturday 9th May virtually sold out and the 7th and 8th May rapidly filling up, so do not delay if you want to go out and be entertained by this exceptional theatre group, you will really enjoy it.   Tickets are 25TL with all profits being donated to SOS Children’s Village and Kyrenia Animal Rescue and are available at The Food Lodge in Çatalköy, JK’s Bar in Lapta and Lambousa Saturday market or for further information telephone  0533 872 4573.
