Foreign Minister Özdil Nami: “Significance of reaching a settlement has become apparent”

Foreign Minister Özdil Nami expressed that suspension of the negotiations constitutes a shocking development and has led all involved to become concerned. Foreign Minister Nami Ozdil Nami image 3also mentioned that the significance of finding a settlement to the Cyprus issue has become more apparent, particularly in light of the threats created by the instability in the overall region.

Speaking before the General Assembly of the Parliament, Foreign Minister Nami stated that it is an unacceptable approach for the Greek Cypriot leadership to conduct hydrocarbon exploration activities prior to reaching a settlement on the Island. Foreign Minister Nami added that the Greek Cypriot leadership’s recent commencement of exploration activities in a new parcel is being carried out in disrespect of the mutual rights and interests necessary to reach a comprehensive settlement.

Foreign Minister Özdil Nami underlined that such approaches will not contribute positively to reaching a comprehensive settlement and that the steps being taken are not conducive to peace building activities. Stating that the Greek Cypriot side’s excuse for abandoning the negotiating table is unacceptable, Foreign Minister Nami expressed that the focus should be on finding the path to a comprehensive settlement rather than allowing anger towards Turkey or an issue related to natural resources to be reflected on the negotiating table.

Foreign Minister Nami called on the international community to re-evaluate their position in this regard.

President Eroğlu meets with Assembly Platform

President Eroğlu met with the Assembly Platform which is formed of political parties represented at the Assembly yesterday.

Dervis Eroglu 9After the meeting all party leaders made a call and asked the Greek Cypriot side to come back to the negotiating table.

After the meeting President Eroğlu stated that the Turkish Cypriot side is not at a point to tolerate the preconditions set forth by the Greek Cypriot side any more.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot side had frequently put forward preconditions throughout negotiations, Eroğlu said the fact that these preconditions reached into extremes and the fact that it is the Greek Cypriot side who keeps sabotaging the negotiations should be acknowledged by the international community.

President Eroğlu said there are steps to be taken in order to show the international community how unjust the Greek Cypriot side is by withdrawing from the negotiations.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry reacted to the decision of the Greek Cypriot side not to participate in the talks of the UN negotiation process which resumed on 11 February 2014.

In the Ministry’s statement it was stressed that the Cyprus problem cannot be settled only through the efforts of the Turkish Cypriot side and guarantor Turkey. It is also said in the statement that, “The attempts of the Greek Cypriot Administration to unilaterally make use of the natural resources of the Island, motivated by the Gas exploration rig imageillusion that it is the sole owner of the Island, and its attitude not to respond to the proposals of the Turkish Cypriot side for a fair sharing of the natural resources, shows that it is not ready to the idea of a settlement based on partnership. Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side desire a negotiated, lasting political settlement on the Island and see this as a requisite of the vision of common prosperity, stability and security in the entire Eastern Mediterranean region. For this, it is essential that the Greek Cypriot side now adopts a clear attitude regarding the new partnership to be established on the basis of the inherent constitutive power and political equality of the two peoples who are co-owners of the Island. Blocking the way of the current efforts for a comprehensive settlement carried out under the auspices of the UN Good Offices Mission will indicate that the Greek Cypriot side does not want a new partnership. Motherland and guarantor Turkey will respect the preferences of the two peoples of the Island to be determined through their constitutive will; however, it will never allow Turkish Cypriots to become a minority in a Greek Cypriot “state”.”

Missing Martyr Halil Abdullah will be buried with a military ceremony on 13th October

Halil Abdullah, whose remains were found in 2010 during the excavations of the Committee of Missing Persons, will be buried in Lefkoşa Martyrdom with a military ceremony on 13 October. Halil Abdullah was martyred by Greek Cypriots and went missing in Hulu village of Baf on 4 February 1964.

Eroğlu: “Reactions against the Greek Cypriot footballer’s transfer is another example of Greek Cypriot fanaticism”

President Eroğlu stated that opposition of a group in South Cyprus against the Greek Cypriot footballer who will play football in TRNC is yet Football Cyprus_3another example showing Greek Cypriot fanaticism.

Eroğlu also expressed that embargo on sports is meaningless. Stating that although the Cyprus problem was created by the Greek Cypriots, they are accepted in the European Union and Turkish Cypriots are left to live under embargoes. Eroğlu pointed out that in order to improve themselves in sports or in any other subject, youngsters should be able to go overseas and expressed his belief that Fenerbahçe will do its part herein.

Eroğlu also added that it will be impossible for South Cyprus, which has no toleration for the Greek Cypriot footballers playing in the TRNC, to accept important developments concerning the Cyprus problem.

Değirmenlik Football team signed agreement with another Greek Cypriot footballer

Değirmenlik, which is the first football club that used its right given by the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation to transfer DSK Football cluba footballer registered by the so called Republic of Cyprus, has signed an agreement with a second Greek Cypriot footballer. President of the Değirmenlik Football Club Emirali Öztüccar signed an agreement with Avgyris Christofi at the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation yesterday. Öztüccar said: “We have signed an agreement with Avgyris as we did with Demetris Vasilıou. Avgyris who is from Larnaca was playing at the Second League in Greece.”

Öztüccar also said that despite the incidents faced by Demetris, Avgyris was not discouraged and he did not have any reservations.
