The Doğanköy Community Association have been very busy arranging events at the beautiful little church in their village, some of which we have already shared with our readers, and now are pleased to advise us of even more events in the coming weeks.
- Sunday 19th October and Monday 20th October there will be an Art & Craft Exhibition with the work of Jean Howells and Philomena Miles. The exhibition will be from 11am to 4pm each day.
- Monday 27th October you can attend a talk by Claire Morley who will be sharing her experiences whilst helping hurricane victims in the Philippines. This will be at 3pm in the afternoon.
- Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th November there will be an Art Exhibition showing the work of Francois Moncomble, together with a book-signing by Yvonne Çerkiz of her book “Rauf Denktaş – A Private Portrait”. This will take place between 11am and 4pm each day. There will also be a raffle with 50% being donated to the church restoration fund.
The committee members have worked tirelessly with a huge restoration program, some of which cannot be seen but included much work to the leaking roof and cracks in the walls due to the age of the church, and the results have given a beautiful glistening white building and is a wonderful venue for wedding blessings, exhibitions etc. Immediately following the completion of the restoration work, a wedding blessing was held at the church and, although it was a close-call, all of the work was completed in time for this lovely event.
Of course all of this work costs a lot of money and so now the committee are trying to recoup some of the funds already spent on the recent restoration and accumulate more funds for future maintenance.
