CESV – Dedicated to training others
to save lives
By Chris Elliott
I have long been an admirer of the work of CESV, the Civil Emergency Service Volunteers (CESV) who train to be on standby to support Sivil Savunma the TRNC Civil Defence in times of emergency. They also give first aid training to the TRNC Emergency Services and I was surprised to learn that even on Sundays, the traditional day of rest, these volunteers can be hard at work helping others.
On Sunday 8th June the CESV volunteers were in action again and this is what Steve Collard their Director of Operations told me:
“Today was the first of three Sunday training sessions being given to Orman Dairesi or the forest fire service and 32 members of the service attended the training course we had arranged at the civil defence base in Esentepe.
The forest fire service personnel were put through their paces by the CESV training team with some realistic and very scary simulated injuries being created by our CESV make up team to really shock and challenge those being trained. The subjects covered were CPR, unconscious patients, fractures, snake and animal bites and burns.
CESV works closely with Cemil Karzaoglu the manager of the forest fire service (Orman Dairesi) and we had a joint operation with them two weeks ago covering the Crusader Castle Trail Ultra marathon route.
The Orman Dairesi are one of the TRNC Emergency Services partnering with the CESV volunteers and we will maintain contact with them to be ready to give more technical advice and training in the future.”
