RBL/Creditwest Twenty20 Cricket
Tournament 2014
News from Royal British Legion, Kyrenia Branch
With only a week to go the tension is mounting for the inaugural Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by the RBL Kyrenia Branch and sponsored by Creditwest Bank.
Organiser Brian Thomas said: “I am really getting excited now about the tournament. We have had all four teams practicing hard north and sout
h of the green line, the mat for the wicket is arriving early next week, the crystal glass winner’s trophy has been purchased and polished and the Phoenix Line Dancers are polishing up their performances. All it needs now is for the public to show their support by turning out to watch the event and hopefully raise the roof as well as some money for our registered charity. There will be a cricket related raffle on the day.”
The event takes place at the 20 Temmuz Stadium in Girne on Saturday 24 May with the turnstiles open from 9.30am. The first semi-final gets underway at 10am followed by a Kids Kwik cricket demonstration. The second semi-final will commence at 1pm again followed by Kids Kwik cricket. The Phoenix Line Dancers will perform at around 3pm with a small auction of cricket items then taking place, then the tournament final will commence around 4pm. The prize giving ceremony should take place around 6.30pm to close the tournament.
Major Thomas added: “We are bound by local regulations and have had to cancel the food and drink stall from the Black Olive Café, therefore there will only be the local canteen at the stadium selling snacks and soft drinks only. So if you wish to bring your own food and drink then please use plastic glasses, not cans or bottles along with your cool boxes. There is plenty of room at the stadium to sit and relax and enjoy the entertainment on offer for what is a truly British spectacle.”
