The great Easter Picnic in Pinarbasi
By Ralph Kratzer
On Easter Monday more than 50 members and guests of the TFR met for this year’s traditional Easter picnic, this time not, as so often in the past few years, in the legendary garden of our member Uwe Vandieken (to remember – please click here!), but in Pinarbasi at the foot of the southern side of the Besparmak mountains.
In this small sleepy village you can find a beautiful picnic and barbecue area in the shade of ancient, very high plane trees and crisscrossed with meandering natural spring water. Guests there can rent tables and chairs, glasses, plates and cutlery, and a charcoal grill as well. Drinks can also be bought on site.
Proper picnic friends, as the members of the TFR, of course bring along their own equipment.
Thus, soon a long row of tables was covered with a variety of delicious foods, some of them provided by the club, the majority of it however prepared and brought along by the participants of the event.
Everything your heart desires was there: grilled chicken drumsticks, Köfte meatballs, smoked fish, meat in aspic, ham, loads of different side dishes and desserts. A feast for the eyes and the stomach.
Heinz Nauroth, the Chairman of the TFR, gave a short speech and welcomed on this occasion also the latest jubilee member of the club with a bottle of champagne.
The attending guests from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Ireland, France and Cyprus led cheerful and animated conversations and there was a lot of laughter. After the buffet was opened and the hungry crowd had served themselves, it was once a little bit quieter because everyone enjoyed the variety of food on his/her plates.
After lunch the conversation went on, some of those present enjoyed a round of Bowls to get rid of the previously acquired pounds (which of course only partially worked!).
Another successful event of the TFR, I ‘m sure next year we can count on our members again!
