The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (TFR)

First Anniversary of the

TFR Bowling Cup of the Nations

By Ralph Kratzer

BowlingAs with the weekly get-together, the so called “Stammtisch“, now the monthly bowling tournament has  become an inseparable part of the TFR schedule of events since March last year.

Last Wednesday therefore marked the first anniversary of the Cup of the Nations and again several members met at King ‘s Pin Leisure Centre in Kyrenia to both participate in this relaxed competition and also just to swap the latest news and gossip among themselves.

Brad, our tireless organizer of these events, put together four different teams, this time UK, Germany, Sweden and TRNC which was a mixed team of British, German and Finnish players.

On site also was Susie Forster of the newspaper Cyprus Today to take a few snapshots from the event.

After evaluation of the daily results Brad as always announced the highly anticipated scores.

P1010582The ranking of the teams this time was: UK ahead of Germany, followed by the team TRNC and last but not least Sweden.

The individual ranking of the players showed among the female competitors as  1st Sonja from Germany, behind her on rank 2 and 3 the British participants Kath and Gwynn.

The men’s result showed Keith (UK) on rank 1, followed by Seppo (Finland) and Brad (UK).

After Brad had also evaluated the results of the entire last season, the announcement of the champions of the year followed at the weekly get-together on Friday.

The TFR Chairman Heinz distributed medals among the players present.

P1010590Ladies : Gold for Lena from Sweden, silver for Kath from UK and bronze for Margareta, also from Sweden.

Gentlemen : Gold for Brad from UK, silver for Ralph from Germany and bronze for Horst from Germany.

Unfortunately the medals were only made of coloured iron sheet, however every winner was delighted to receive the award.

As Lena was unfortunately unable to accept her medal personally – she will receive the award at the next bowling event which is planned for 9th April 2014.
