TRNC PRESIDENCY: “NEWS IS COMPLETELY SPECULATIVE”

The TRNC Presidency stressed that presenting any proposal to the Greek Cypriot Administration and refusal or approval of any proposal is out of question and indicated that the Dervis Eroglu 8news regarding this issue is completely speculative.

A statement has been issued by the Presidency regarding issues that have been reflected in the press both in North Cyprus, South Cyprus and Turkey. It notes that the Turkish Cypriot side  presented a constructive proposal on the 14th of December with the contributions of mainly motherland Turkey and the interested parties.

The proposal put forward by the Turkish Cypriot side is a continuation of its constructive stance which aimed to open the way for the Cyprus negotiation process the statement noted.

The proposal put forward was praised by all sides concerned the statement stresses and adds that it is out of the question to put forward a new proposal or for any other proposal to be approved or rejected.

The statement also added that President Derviş Eroğlu as he has stressed since the day he came to duty, is ready to make an agreement which takes the realities of Cyprus into consideration and is determined to do whatever is necessary to achieve this.

FOREIGN MINISTER ÖZDİL NAMİ:  “STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN BY CONSIDERING OPPORTUNITIES TO BE PROVIDED BY A SOLUTION”

Foreign Minister Özdil Nami stated that leaders should launch the negotiations as soon as possible because both sides in Cyprus have economical problems, and politicians have great responsibilities to take further Ozdil Nami 2steps by  considering the opportunities to be provided by a solution in Cyprus.

Paying a visit to Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce, Foreign Minister Nami pointed out that it is very important to be in consultation with non-governmental organizations and added that the processes regarding both the Cyprus problem and the economy are the processes on which efforts should be made together.

Reminding that when we consider other countries in the world, Foreign Ministries have missions to open the way for the business world, FM Nami said that trade can be possible especially via TRNC Representatives in Gulf Countries and Europe.

In his speech, the President of Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce Günay Çerkez said that they have been following closely the efforts of Nami spent towards Turkish Cypriots’ opening up to the world and a solution of the Cyprus problem and he added that the business world desires launching of the negotiations as soon as possible.

Indicating that the Cyprus problem has not been solved for decades, Çerkez said that a solution and EU vision of Chamber of Commerce is continuing.

PRIME MINISTER OZKAN YORGANCIOĞLU IS GOING TO ANKARA

Prime Minister Ozkan Yorgancıoğlu is going to Ankara on 30th January, as tÖzkan Yorgancıoğluhe guest of TR Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Foreign Minister Özdil Nami, undersecretary and private secretary of the Prime Ministry will accompany Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu on his Ankara visit.

Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu and the accompanying delegation will meet the TR Prime Minister at 12:30 and the Head of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Cemil Çiçek at 15:00 on 30th January.

ABSENCE OF DEMOCRACY

Kostakis Andoniu quoted an investigation made by Prime Consulting Co. for the Sigma Channel in his article titled ‘Absence of Democracy’ in the Simerini newspaper which is being published in the Greek Cypriot side.

According to this investigation 65% of the Greek Cypriots believe that Press freedomGreek Cypriot Television does not inform the people objectively. The columnist wrote that contrary to the programs in the USA and Europe, political leaders were not being criticized by the journalists on the TV programs; instead the Greek television was trying to court the government by camouflaging mistakes of the government. The columnist indicates that in Europe the journalists make harsh criticisms in their interviews with the politicians however in the Greek Cypriot side political leaders were observed as holy creatures that the journalists should not harm.  Defending that thus the democracy was not functioning well and the people were not informed properly the newspaper expressed that this situation affects the thoughts of the people negatively. The columnist also stressed that this attitude encourages the Greek Government to follow a damaging policy for the people.
