Doğanköy Hawthorn Festival
By Margaret Sheard
We didn’t manage to get back to the Doğanköy Festival for Day 2 on Sunday 3rd November, but we received news from Janet Bartholomew who, together with her husband Stephen, runs the “Friends” Line Dancers and they were there on the second day to perform for the visitors to the Festival as well as the traditional young dancers who do a display of Turkish Folk Dancing.
Janet said that the group wore a “waist scarf” which they don’t usually do but as they danced to songs by Turkish singers they thought it quite appropriate and a bit of fun. From the photo I think they look rather nice. Janet also choreographed the steps to “Dilli Duduk” which always goes down well.
The “Friends” enjoy the local festivals as they always see a lot of people they know there and they like to support the local stallholders.
When we were there on the Saturday I managed to snap Chris wearing a silly wig, which he now uses for his Facebook profile, and I had to smile when I saw Stephen with the self-same wig. What is it with these men!
As on the Saturday, the weather was glorious, there was no wind so they had the bonus of not having to chase after their hats, as they have had to do on many occasions.
Janet added that the next performance of the “Friends” Line Dancers will be at the Mountain View Hotel in Karaoğlanoğlu for the Christmas Sing-along of The Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services on 10th and 11th December.
