April 23 Celebrations Fill Kyrenia Streets
Schools from Kyrenia’s (Girne) east and west districts joined a parade and stage performances marking National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, drawing crowds along the waterfront.
KYRENIA — An April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebration brought schools, local authorities, and residents together in Kyrenia with a city-centre parade followed by student performances at the Kordonboyu Atatürk Monument.

The event was organised jointly by the Ministry of National Education and Kyrenia Municipality, in cooperation with the Esentepe-Çatalköy Municipality and the Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel (LAÇ) Municipality. District Governor Revin Gürler attended alongside municipal officials, education inspectors, school principals, teachers, and students.
Festivities began with a cortege march from Ramadan Cemil Square to the Kordonboyu Atatürk Monument, as pupils and staff proceeded through central streets and along the seafront. Onlookers paused to watch the procession, which featured coordinated school groups and a display of banners and colours.
After the march, the programme continued on a stage set up in front of the monument, where primary schools and special education schools from Kyrenia’s east and west regions presented performances for families and visitors. Organisers said the day aimed to highlight children’s role in civic life while keeping the national holiday’s traditions alive in the city centre.
