Pink Day in Girne

By Margaret Sheard

We recently wrote about an event being organised by Carole King and Sue Tilt for Pink Day 1Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) on Thursday 17th October in Girne.

We have now heard that this was a huge success and have had the following report of the event from Carole and Sue which we are passing on to our readers.

Just to let you know that we raised a fantastic 2,580.38TL last Thursday. Most of this was collected in the tins and the rest was raised on the stall. We started our day at 9.30 a.m. outside the Belediye where we set up our Pink Day 3stall. We were all dressed in Pink with wigs and hawaiian skirts to match (including our one intrepid male, Mike Bezzant – what a star!) and then we set off through the town and around the harbour areas to collect money in our Pink Tins for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Our helpers on the day were Pam Kennedy, Jane Matter, Ann Reeves, Mike Bezzant, Linda Roy, Jennifer Stacy and Ann Cox and we would like to thank them all most sincerely for their hard work. We were also supported by 2 students from the Near East University, Aquiline Mozhawidzo and Lucy Gwatidzo, who both entered into the spirit of the day and encouraged passers-by to join in and support the event, thanks to them too. We finally finished at aPink Day 4bout 3.30 and a very weary but elated bunch of pink volunteers made their way home. A big thank you to the Food Lodge who donated over 100 pink donuts for us to sell on the day on our stall and we appreciate their hard work in getting them all ready for an early start. Their support is so much appreciated.

We are so lucky in North Cyprus to have some very caring people who do so much to help others, and Carole and Sue, along with their increasing band of helpers, are among those who do so much for those people who are unfortunately fighting a battle against cancPink Day 2er.

Friday, 25th October is Wear Something Pink Day, so don’t forget if you are going out and about to wear something pink and donate what you can to Tulips.
