An afternoon of fun and frolics for the whole family

Plans for the first celebration of Armed Forces Day in North Cyprus are now well advanced. Organised by the Royal British Legion’s Kyrenia Branch, the event will be a full Kim Tylerday of entertainment for the whole family, with all proceeds going to support British Forces personnel, including Turkish Cypriots, and their families, in their time of need.

Gates open at The Courtyard at 1pm, entrance is a TL5 donation per person. The British High Commissioner in Cyprus, His Excellency Mr Matthew Kidd, will formally open the event at 1pm and the festivities will continue well into the evening.

The proprieter at The Courtyard Inn, Mo Malik and his superb team, will be on hand taking orders for food and drinks, including a special menu featuring snacks and meals.

As to be expected at such an event, there will be a presentation of The Royal British Legion Standards, proudly borne by Kim Tyler and Mick Bone, Kim last year attended the National Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

During the afternoon revellers will be entertained by Werner and His Steam Machine Disco, popular entertainer Dave Monroe, Kelvin Burke and his new band Blackjack and the fabulous Shy Teds, all of whom have promisedHurl a wet sponge at Dad in the Stocks on Armed Forces Day to keep going well into the evening. Additionally, the ever-popular Phoenix Line Dancers will appear during the course of the afternoon.

Amongst the many attractions will be a Cake Stall, Palm Reading, Darts, Ping Pong in a Jar, Apple Bobbing, Egg and Spoon Race for the kids, Play your Cards Right and a Wheelbarrow Raffle for a Barrel of Beer. Children will also have a splendid chance to throw a wet sponge at their Dad in the Stocks!

The culmination of the planned events will be the displays by branches of the Armed Forces, including the hilarious spoof, the RAF Red Barrows, whose display promises to be particularly entertaining!
