I would like to say thank you to Cyprusscene and Engin Dervişağa for showing an interest in the Kumarcılar Han (Gamblers Inn) in Lefkosa through the Discovering North Cyprus programmes on BRT2 television (click here). I took a liking to this beautiful structure built by the Ottomans which had deteriorated over the centuries and left in very poor condition inside the walled city of Lefkoşa.

For more than 55 years the historical building of the Electric Trafo Station, which was put into service in 1938 and ceased in 1960, was left to rot away until the Girne Municipality with its Mayor Nidai Güngördü decided to restore it and put it back into public service as an Art Gallery.
Minister Ataoğlu was present at Nitovikla Garden Hotel, together with KTOES General Secretary Şener Elçil, Mehmetcik Mayor Cemil Sarıcizmeli, and Kristien de Bootd, who is involved in agro tourism and agriculture in Belgium, for the opening ceremony of the Eco-Bio Agro Tourism Business project “Learning Cyprus Cuisine and Culture”.

It’s difficult to separate the subject of the Cypriot population from the politics surrounding the status quo. For many, and especially those who are unfamiliar with the recent and ancient history of Cyprus, it may seem logical to agree that Cyprus is Greek, and that Turkish Cypriots are but a minority who are often treated as the thorn in the sides of politicians.

We have had contact and promoted many of Richard Chamberlain’s photographic exhibitions and book-signing events for his 2 books of photos during the past few years, and were pleased to hear that he has again produced a lovely souvenir calendar for 2018 with his wonderful old photos of Cyprus taken 63 years ago in 1954.
