Ertuğruloğlu responded to Christodoulides’ comment on the ‘solution plan’, calling it a perception‑shaping move within ongoing political discussions.

Ertuğruloğlu: Christodoulides’ claim on ‘solution plan’ misleads

TRNC Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, described the remarks made by Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, claiming that United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would launch a new initiative and solution plan before the end of the year, as a “perception operation.”

In a statement to the Turkish News Agency Cyprus, Minister Ertuğruloğlu said that the approach the Greek Cypriot side refers to as a “solution” is based on the claim of “liberating the island from Turkish occupation.” He underlined that the Turkish Cypriot side would not retreat from its policy of two sovereign equal states and equal international status.

Pointing out that United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres would not wish to experience another unsuccessful process before the end of his term, Ertuğruloğlu stated that meetings with newly appointed representatives would not change the current situation, unless the UN Security Council adopted a new position.
