By Richard Beale……

Two goals from 16 year old teenage sensation HÜSEYİN DEYNEKLİ and an injury time goal from MUSTAFA GÜNLÜ virtually assured Esentepe of a promotion “play off” place. It will need a freakish result in the last round of matches on this coming Sunday for Maraş to overtake Esentepe.

Result : KARŞIYAKA SK 0 ESENTEPE KKSK 3

Thursday, July 16, 2020: K-Pet League 1: Ergin Şahdur Stadium.

Another impressive performance by this young Esentepe team who carried out Coach Kiılıç Ali Kahraman’s game plan to perfection. Esentepe contained and repelled Karşıyaka attacks and relied on the quick breakaways, which in the first half in particular were very effective, Esentepe could have gone into the break 3 or 4 goals up. The Karşıyaka defence had no answer to the lightning breaks of Hüseyin, Şükrü and Kaan with striker Eray “playing in the hole” Esentepe dominated the first half. In the second half Karşıyaka had more of the territory but did not put Esentepe under too much pressure in which again the “veterans” Nersin and Şahın were outstanding.

ONE, TWO! 16 year old HÜSEYİN DEYNEKLİ celebrates his two goals

This was a brilliant win for Esentepe on their own patch, small playing area and a baying partizan crowd Karşıyaka are formidable opposition. On a very hot evening, tempers flared both on the pitch and on the terraces, even though there were 8 bookings top referee Osman Özpaşa, was in control throughout dealing firmly with any incidents.

Esentepe could have taken the lead in the 8th minute when a through ball saw Hüseyin Deynekli bearing down on goal but the goalkeeper Şiho advanced he put his shot just wide of the right hand post.

Hüseyin only had to wait a minute to open his account Karşıyaka were caught napping by a quick Esentepe throw on the right Yakup outstripping Mehmet Gürpınar before crossing to HÜSEYİN DEYNEKLİ to slot past Şiho. 0-1

It was that boy HÜSEYİN DEYNEKLİ again who scored Esentepe’s second goal in the 14th minute being put clean through with the Karşıyaka defence wide open, as Şiho advanced he calmly put his shot to the goalkeepers right to record his 5th goal in 4 matches not bad for a “young un!. 0-2

Karşıyaka slowly recovered from this opening salvo and came close to reducing the deficit on two occasions. In the 18th minute, Tahir tried his luck with a shot from outside the box, that required a smart save from goalkeeper Onur pushing the shot over for a corner. 32 minutes a Mehmet Gürpınar corner on saw goalkeeper Onur call to claim the ball, but he failed to do so and young Hüseyin on the goal line headed the ball away.

In the final 10 minutes of the half, Esentepe regained their control and should have added to their score. Kaan after being set up by Eray had a good shot that just cleared the Karşıyaka crossbar.

41 minutes another fast Esentepe breakaway saw a 4-3 advantage Eray again set Kaan up, but the winger shot just wide of the right hand post. The roles were reversed in the 42 minutes, this time it was Eray’s turn to shoot into the side netting from a good position.

43 minutes the Karşıyaka woodwork was struck following a Kaan free kick that hit the outside of the left hand post. HALF TIME 0-2

As expected Karşıyaka made a couple of changes during the break and this seemed to have the desired effect as they took control of the midfield pushing players up.

55 minutes a Mehmet Gürpınar corner from the right draw Tasim at the far post got a header in that saw goalkeeper Onur flying to his right to palm the ball away.

Esentepe immediately replied with a counter attack in which Kaan tried his luck with a long shot that goalkeeper Şiho dived to his left to palm the ball onto his crossbar.

57th minute Hüseyin in search of his hat trick was put through again, this time goalkeeper Şiho managed to stick out a hand and deflect the ball away.

Esentepe might be becoming more and more under pressure but they were very dangerous on the breakaway with the Karşıyaka defence leaving holes as they pushed upfield.

As the half wore on the heat of the day finally subsiding, so did the heat on the field and thankfully also on the terraces as Karşıyaka seemed to accept their fate and await the final whistle.

Esentepe had other ideas when they added a third goal deep into injury set up and scored by replacements. Muhammed got the better of Tahir on the right before crossing into the centre finding MUSTAFA GÜNLÜ whose first effort was parried by the goalkeeper but following up prodded the ball home 0-3.

Esentepe are finding form at the right time since the restart of the season they have sprung from the traps at full pace. Let me remind you this is a very young Esentepe team, an average age of 23, they have youth on their side, they are enthusiastic with only Nersin being over 30. To get to the playoffs is unbelievable with such a small squad on a shoestring budget. We may fail in the playoffs, it may be a bridge too far but they thought that of Wycombe Wanderers.

FULL TIME SCORE : 0-3.
