EMU Astronomy Course for Secondary School students

By Ahmet Abdulaziz ….

On 5th and 7th August 2019, the Eastern Mediterranean University organised a short  Astronomy course for Secondary School students.

The course was aimed to improve the knowledge of young students, above 12 years of age, with knowledge of Space, and was organised by the Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Physics, of the University.

The dates of the course were specifically selected because these were when a clear view of stars and planets would be available. The students were not only provided with information but were also encouraged to express their views and opinions. The students also improved their knowledge by asking questions.

The observation was carried out with a telescope from the inventory of Yenal Öğmen’s Green Island Observatory. The students and instructors were presented with certificates upon completion of the course.
