Mağusa Türk Gücü (MTG) who are slugging it out at the top of the League with current Champions and League leaders Yenicamı had a very comfortable win over Esentepe. The visitors “gifted” two penalties to the Champions “elect’, who were in no mood to turn down a “gift from the horse’s mouth’
Result : MAĞUSA TÜRK GÜCÜ 3 ESENTEPE KKSK 0
Saturday March 16 : K-Pet Super League: Gazımağusa Canbulat Stadıum.
MTG kept the pressure up on current leaders Yenicami with a very easy win over Esentepe. As an Esentepe supporter I am very happy to come away from Famagusta with a 3-0 defeat, many teams have not, losing 7-0, 6-0, etc. Even though it was a defeat, it has not harmed Esentepe as the bottom two clubs below them also lost. It was a “damage limitation’ exercise that Esentepe got away with.
MTG are a very rich club, they can afford to pay “top whack’ wages to attract the best players, they have done this and they have built a formidable team, even the replacement bench is so strong that those players would get a game with any other Super League team.
The pitch being synthetic, Esentepe did not risk playing hamstring injury players Junior and Vurkan, choosing to keep them in “cotton wool’ ahead of next Saturday’s vital game against Cihangir.
MTG are a very impressive run Club and the thriving Social Club, opposite the Stadium which is busy before and after the match, providing income to the Club. When you enter the turnstile, there is an impressive Club Shop selling replica shirts, scarfs, etc everything is geared up to providing income to the Club.
The Canbulut Stadium is impressive at one end and along one side are ‘battlements”, where the home supporters gather under a huge banner of “Welcome to the Republic of Garga” (Welcome to the Republic of Crows !} Well their fans sat on the battlements waiting for carrion to feast on!
Esentepe’s MAHMUT (red) trying to keep Mağusa at bay
2 mins : With their first attack MTG almost scored when Yasin on the left centred the ball to MÜchael Odibe but Esentepe goalkeeper Onur was aware of the threat racing out of his goal to block the MTG forward shot with his feet.
5 mins : MTG took the lead with a simple goal, Efosa lost possession of the ball allowing Dino Peter to make progress down the left, before squaring the ball across to ÜGUR GÖK to side foot home easily. 1-0.
13 mins : Turan tried his luck with a shot outside the area that forced Esentepe keeper Onur into making a smart save.
16 mins : Esentepe first real meaning attack followed Mustafa Kiliç breaking up an MTG attack, before finding Efosa on the left, the Nigerian cross was met first time by Kaan, but went straight at MTG keeper Yusuf.
31 mins : MTG broke down the left with Ügur coming into the box, Esentepe keeper Onur came racing out of his goal, to bring him down, I thought this was a rash challenge on the MTG forward as there seemed to be no danger from that position.
YASIN duly dispatched the resultant penalty. 2-0
41 mins : MTG should have increased their lead when Esentepe central defender Hasan was robbed of the ball with a 2 on 1 situation prevailing, but Onur came out quickly to smother Thank god Peter’s shot. HALF TIME SCORE : 2-0
The game was really over at the break there was no way Esentepe would score two goals let alone one to get back in the game.
50 mins : Thank god Peter on the right for MTG beat his player and ran into the box, as Onur came out to him he slipped it past the goalkeeper, only to see Hasan race back and hook the ball away before it crossed the line.
MTG were in total control, not busting a gut they were aware of Esentepe limitations and were able to engage “cruise control”. Such was the strength of their replacement bench they withdrew their Nigerian forwards Dinopeter and Sadik to give them some match time rest. Esentepe on their bench had only U21 team players Emre and Mustafa Günlü to call on.
81 mins : MTG scored again from the penalty spot when a corner from Gok, struck Ugurcan arm in the box and EBIMOBOWEI PETER sent Onur the wrong way with his kick. 3-0
83 mins : MTG should have made it four goals when substitute Arıf sent sent over a perfect right hand cross to the unmarked Ebimobowei Peter who headed wide from a great position.
90 mins : Esentepe at last had an opportunity to score a consolation goal, when Mustafa Günlü sent Efosa away down the left, the winger cut inside and teed up Mustafa with only the goalkeeper to beat, but somehow the youngster miss hit his shot and Yusuf in the MTG goal managed to beat the ball away . FULL TIME SCORE: 3-0
One penalty, two penalties, all with the same result!
