A very bad day at the Office for Esentepe

By Richard Beale ….

Not only did Esentepe lose this “9 pointer” match, they missed two penalties, while playing against a side reduced to 10 men and to make the day even worse their recently appointed Technical Director Necati Tilki resigned after the match.

Sunday December 16, 2018 : K-Pet Super League : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.

On this cold bleak winters day Esentepe fortunes slumped to their lowest ebb, if losing this match and our Coach was not enough the team have slumped to bottom place, 6 points behind the fourth bottom club. It has still come as a shock that Necati has left the Club after only 6 matches (winning 1, losing 5) in charge, obviously Esentepe have big problems that he cannot overcome.

I have written previously of Esentepe’s atrocious luck this season, bad refereeing decisions etc, etc but today there is no excuses or reasons, Esentepe’s performance especially in the second half was poor against 10 men. If you miss two penalties in a match (3 missed in 2 matches) then you have only yourselves to blame, we didn’t deserve anything from this match.

Where do we go from here? 13 matches into the season already we have used two Technical Directors, the midseason break which is 2 matches away cannot come quickly enough.

We must play the next 2 matches, (hopefully gain some points) under a “caretaker” regime. During the break there are some tough decisions to be made until we find a replacement Coach within the Club? Or do we recruit outside again?

Esentepe in red on the attack

Football is a simple game, if you score more goals than your opponents then you take the points. Esentepe have no goal scorers, if they are serious in retaining their Super League status they must find the money from somewhere and sign two proven goal scorers. If that means transferring some of our imported players then so be it. They could spend money on two strikers and still go down anyway. Maybe the second half of the season will be “damaged limitation” as they prepare for life back in League 1. There are still 48 points to play for, we may have a few nails in our coffin, but the lid is not secured down yet. In the winter’s break Esentepe must regroup and replan, they have some good experienced, knowledgeable “Esentepe football people” behind the scenes, they will know what is best for the Club.

5 mins : A long searching ball from Sane found Odi running through on goal, with Bınatli’s defender Yunus shadowing him. Odi was sent tumbling into the area and referee Kerem Eran awarded Esentepe a penalty. Video highlights later will show that the foul was committed in the D of the box. Maybe Yunus being the last defender was lucky not to be sent off, anyway Ahmet Karal’s weak penalty was easily saved by goalkeeper Salih.

14 mins : Esentepe once again would pay dearly for the penalty miss as Bınlatli punished them, Moise lost the ball to a hard Abdullah challenge the ball went to Burak, who spotted SERTAÇ unmarked to his right and the striker beat Ali with a low shot 0-1

20 mins : Esentepe equalised from a throw in Moise by the by line crossed the ball which was weakly headed out to the edge of the box to where AHMET KARAL smashed the ball in with a rising drive to make up for his penalty miss. 1-1.

48 mins : Esentepe’s hopes of winning this match increased when Yunus was yellow carded for a second offence, then red carded after making a rash challenge on Uğurcan.

56 mins : Esentepe goalkeeper Ali kept them in the game making two diving saves from Burak as Bınatli looked dangerous on the break, most of their moves instigated by the lively Israel.

62 mins : Following a good cross from the right by Uğurcan, Ahmet Karal headed the ball goalwards where Sane was waiting, only to have the ball whisked off his feet at the last second by a Bınatli defender.

78 mins : Esentepe were caught again by Bınatli breakaways, when Israel on the right squared the ball across to an unmarked MEHMET ALI a few yards out to score past Ali. 1-2

Esentepe heads visibly dropped, not helped by the lack of atmosphere in a very quiet Stadium.

87 mins : Esentepe were given a lifeline when a long ball found Odi, he out muscled Alattın but as he made his way into the box he was bundled over by Hüseyin for a penalty.

Sane who already had missed a penalty in the last match, stepped up to take this one but side footed a poor penalty wide.

Esentepe players in despair and Necati Tilki Esentepe Coach who resigned after the match.

Bınatli played the final minutes out with no further problems, a gloom had descended on the Stadium and already many of its spectators had departed. The final whistle blew and many Esentepe players sunk to their knees in despair as the rising looming spectre of relegation becomes a reality.
