Well known Rock musicians from North Cyprus met Lefkosa Belediyesi Orchestra in the Bandabulya (Lefkosa).
It was an interesting evening on Wednesday 12th December. A renewed attempt by the Lefkosa Belediyesi Orchestra under the direction of Oskay Hoca to connect other genres of music with classical music.
After Pop / Beat with the Beatles Night guitar virtuosos of rock and selected rock songs took centre stage on Wednesday evening. With the pieces of solo and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai; Joe Satriani and Marty Friedman, who was musically influenced by Steve Vai, it set the bar high. For this purpose, two rock and metal guitarists had been invited with Inanc Ersen, Ersun Hoca and the alternative rock singer Orcun Benli.
It should not be forgotten that Huseyin Kırmızı (piano) and Uğur Güçlü (drums), two musicians of the former Cypriot rock band “UNREAL” (played in the opening act of Deep Purple in Nicosia), belong to the Lefkosa Belediyesi Orchestra. The guitar virtuosos formed the setting for this concert, which was complemented by the singer Orcun Benli.
The Bandabulya was sold out and it went instrumentally with songs by Marty Friedman, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani with the guitarist Ersun Hoca performing. A soulful introduction to Marty Friedman’s “Tears of an Angel”. Not only did Ersun excel in this song, he also starred Steve Vai’s The Crying Machine, Lotus Fleet and Joe Satriani’s Surfing with the Alien in an excellent way.
Now it was up to Inanc Ersen to keep up the tension of the guitar virtuosos. He now accompanied the singer Orcun Benli and shone with his own songs. It was followed by a George Michael cover with “Careless Whisper”, followed by Inanc Ersen songs and a rock mix with songs by Muse, Santana and Aerosmith. Inanc with his songs, where he celebrated his guitar playing virtuoso like “Breaking Through” and “For a Long Time”. Simply great …. Orcun did not lag behind and was able to prove his skills in the songs of Inanc “The Only One”, Muse “Feeling Good” and “Let it Rain” from Inanc Ersen and Fikri Karayel. All in all a pleasant evening, where the soloists could prove their skills and elements of the rock got their place.
Biography :
Inanc Ersen
Inanc is probably the best-known guitarist who performed this evening. He was a member of the 1st Cyprus Hard Rock and Metal band named The Unreal, which unfortunately disbanded in 2014. In 2003 they played in the Rock for Peace Festival in Istanbul Turkey which took place before a crowd of 40,000. In May 24, 2014 the band performed as the opening act at the Deep Purple Concert in Nicosia.
Actually he is playing with Ahmet Evan Turkish Pop and in Hard Rock / Metal project with the ex-Unreal members named The Force Awakens ft Francoise ….. very successful
Ersun Hoca
Ersun was Inspired by Godsmak. He started his metal career in 2005 and in 2008 he and his friends formed a Metal band named Deception of Fate. The band was active for 3 years. In 2011 he became a member of the band “Long Trip”, which performed the Classic Rock. His real love is Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. In 2014, he played songs by Steve Vai, Malmsteen and Joe Satriani, which was accompanied by the Nicosia Municipality Orchestra for the first time.
Orcun Benli
Orcun is a young talented singer of the Alternative Rock Band “Lost Islands Cold Kid (L.I.C.K)“ formed in February 2018.
Conclusion:
A good performance from the Soloists, Inanc, Ersun and Orcun. For next projects, because North Cyprus needs more of this, in this way the Orchestra needs more to be a platform for the musicians they invite. The Vocalist and the Guitar player can perform at their optimum. My wish would be for the Orchestra to have more energy and enthusiasm for Rock or other Genres when they play.
