Burcu: “The important points were conveyed to Lute”

The Presidential Spokesman Barış Burcu stated that President Mustafa Akıncı has met with the UN Secretary-General’s temporary envoy Jane Holl Lute again today (18th December) within the framework of the preparation for terms of reference.

In his statement, Burcu said that President Akıncı had the opportunity to convey the points to Jane Holl Lute once again that are important for the Turkish Cypriot people at today’s meeting.

Çavuşoğlu: “Those who dream of Zero Army, Zero Guarantee, should wake up”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu reminded those who are dreaming of zero army and zero guarantee that they should wake up from that dream and added that it would never happen.

Çavuşoğlu underlined that the Cyprus Issue is one of the national issues which needs real efforts for a just and lasting solution but the Greek Cypriot side is not putting any step forward for a solution in the island.

Çavuşoğlu said ‘We will not start a negotiation just to negotiate. Initially we should set the parameters such as what we will negotiate and what the terms will be’. In addition the Turkish Minister underlined that the attitude of Turkey is clear on the hydrocarbon issue and said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has invited them and they will start explorations in the Exclusive Economic Zone and said ‘we now have research vessels and perform drilling. We are also taking measures with our vessels and military in the area and we will continue to take action’.

Akar: “We will never allow fait accompli in Cyprus”

In his speech at the Turkish Parliamentary General Assembly, Turkish National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar stated that the current problem in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean needs to reach a solution within the framework of international law and good-neighbourly relations with peace, friendship and a cooperation approach.

However, Akar said: “Turkey will never allow any step, or fait accompli to be taken in Cyprus, Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean in spite of Turkey and also unilateral hydrocarbon activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, adding that everyone should be aware that a project in the Aegean and Mediterranean, in which the TRNC and Turkey do not participate, does not have any chance to survive.
