Introduction by Margaret Sheard …

Although we had booked a table, we were disappointed that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we were not able to attend the last show of the year by The Abnormals which was held at The Balti House in Esentepe on 27th October.

Susie Ford writes the shows and the group have rehearsals every Sunday throughout the year with guest stars joining in here and there!!  The costumes are their own.

We would like to thank Susie for helping us out by contributing some information about The Abnormals and some words and photos about the event, as shown below :

The Abnormals is a group of expats who raise money for Tulips.  We started some 3½ years ago when we realised there were plenty of singers and bands to go and watch for entertainment but it lacked a sort of comedy so that’s when The Abnormals were formed.

Acts ranging from Elvis, Baba, Amy Beerhouse, The Dung Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Wonga, Wobby Rilliams, the Fat Birds, No-No & Maybe, The Simpsons, Stanley Sapphire, Freddy Mercury, Zena Burner, Andy Pandy & Looby Loo, Arbe & Kardash, Hot Rod, George Michael, Michael Jackson, Prince, the Fat Pack, the Monks and many more!!!    We are not professional singers but professional entertainers in our own right.  There was ‘lotsa’ laughter and audience participation!  Over 50 people attended the show at The Balti House, raising just over 1000 Lira.

The Abnormals also take part in the Esentepe Fun Run and Ramble every year and also appear at The George pub in town once a year collecting money and having photos taken with the passers-by.   We were winners of the Carrington Shield in 2017 and also a part of Charlie Bells recent production of A Hard Day’s Night!  We have even been on Bayrak TV with Can Gazi in 2017 on his Cup of Conversation show.

It’s all about making money for Tulips and to date we have made thousands of Lira for them. Cancer has affected us all at some point – so it is a very worthwhile cause.

This show was the last for this year. We hope to be back next year with lots of new characters.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped us to continue helping Tulips.
