Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) organised an Alternative Quiz at the Red Ribbon Restaurant in Karakum on Thursday 30th August.
Never having attended an Alternative Quiz before, we had no idea what this was all about, but we soon found out from the Quizmaster for the evening, Mick Prior, who explained how the quiz works.
Before the quiz started we enjoyed a nice buffet meal prepared by the Red Ribbon chef, and he was helpful in providing a vegetarian option, which was very nice. There was a lot of chatter while people were eating their food and a nice chance to catch up with old friends.
The quiz started and Mick was accompanied by Patricia Garrod from KAR who went from table to table for the answers to the questions. It seemed a bit complicated to start but gradually we did get the hang of it.
There were 43 people attending and because the quizzers were fairly spread out, both inside and outside, we were excused the questions which required the answer to be sung (thank goodness!). We shared a table with Ian and Incilay Fell and as the evening progressed we found it to be very amusing.
We had a half-way break and at this time the raffle was drawn, with some very nice prizes, and then Kim Betts (KAR) treated us to a card bingo session. This is another game, using playing cards, which I have never come across before, and was very enjoyable. It was an evening of new experiences for us in the quiz world.
Following the interval, we resumed the alternative quiz, which was getting more and more hilarious and it ended up with 5 different tables in the play off. This involved Patricia having to run from table to table to get the answers with Mick urging her to move more quickly!
Eventually the winning team was Kim Betts’ table. The prize was a meal for 2 at The Archway Restaurant in Zeytinlik and also a meal for 2 at Kup Doner in Karakum, so the group will have to decide on which of them will enjoy these prizes.
It was a very good and varied evening and the final result was 2,638TL for KAR.
Well done to Mick and Patricia for the quiz, Kim for the card bingo, the Red Ribbon Restaurant and all the KAR supporters who attended.
