Two late goals from teenage striker HÜRKAN GORNEÇLI was enough to give Esentepe a deserved win over fellow Super League rivals Girne Halk Evi.
This was Esentepe’s first “friendly’ match of the season, played at The Pia Bella Hotel Stadium, Girne. Both teams gained promotion last season into the Super League and it was a good work out for them.
Result : GIRNE HALK EVI SK 0 ESENTEPE KKSK 2.

The match attracted a reasonable crowd with supporters from Esentepe making up the majority of the support. We were made very welcome by them, also by the players, Coaches and a number of Ex Esentepe players who came to watch the match.
Esentepe fielded a team that included 4 trial lists who will be watched over the weeks in further friendly matches in the hope that they will be offered a contract by the Club. Two of those were Nigerian strikers Odi Henry Chibueze and Eric. Odi looked particularly dangerous and should have scored a couple of goals, he is very quick and looks like he could cause defences some problems. Eric also showed up well and was more effective in the second half when switched to the left wing where he linked up well with Uğurcan who impressed at left back.
Esentepe on the attack
Esentepe dominated most of the game and should have won by a greater margin but were guilty of some wasteful finishing.
Esentepe two new signings at central defence Ismet Paşa and Eren looked very secure at the back. Both are tall and powerful players that snuffed out any threat that Girne Halk Evi had to offer.
Esentepe had a goal ruled out just before the break “scored” by Odi which crossed the line but was not seen by any of the officials, and there being no VAR the “goal’ was not given..
Esentepe missed three clear cut chances at the start of the second half and had to wait until the 80th minute when Young Under 21 Team striker HÜRKAN GORNEÇLI converted from close in and the same player scored again in the 85th minute with an almost identical goal.
More action from the match – Esentepe in Red and white
For Esentepe Mahmut who played the whole match had a good game at right back, also Yakup in midfield in the first half stood out. Teenager Hüseyin Bahçeci coming on as a second half replacement also impressed.
The result of friendly matches are not really important, it’s good for the players to have a reasonable competitive match rather than their normal training sessions
