Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu published a message on July 20th for Peace and Freedom Day. Ataoğlu’s message included the following statements:

“The 20th July Peace Operation, will continue to be a guarantee of stability and peace, since 1974 the island has had a steady continuation of the peace, and with Turkey’s active and actual guarantee the continuation is possible”.

“The Feast of Peace and Freedom has guaranteed the future of Turkish Cypriots and has freed us as equal and common owners of the island. Thus, the Turkish Cypriot people have proved that they will not bow to oppression in the struggle for rights and freedom which they have been giving to the whole world for years, and will protect their freedom and independence. The Cyprus sensitivity of the Anatolian people in this determined struggle has always made the Turkish Cypriot people much stronger.

The July 20th Peace Operation will continue to be an assurance of peace and stability on the island. Since 1974 there has been a continuation of ongoing stable peace, with the continuation of Turkey’s effective and actual guarantee.

We remember respectfully and with great honour all the martyrs who gave their lives for freedom and security, the battles that shed blood, the leader of the struggle for existence Dr Fazıl Küçük, Founding President Rauf Raif Denktas and all those who participated in the struggle for existence.

Cyprus Peace allows us to celebrate this day as Peace and Freedom Day with the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Armed Forces heroes and once again we offer our gratitude to the Turkish Cypriot Security Forces members”.

20th July – Happy Peace and Freedom Day.
