The Turkcell 1st Girne Half Marathon was held on Sunday 8th April with the slogan “Although I don’t know you, I am running for you”, with around 3,000 people participating.
“Turkcell 1st Girne Half Marathon” was in aid of the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation for Children with Leukemia and Cancer, and organized in cooperation with EGAD and the Girne Municipality.
The half marathon course was sponsored by Mehmet Eminoglu Investment, Magic Touch Group, Ramadan Cemil Operations and Mpower with 3, 7 and 21 kilometers in 4 different age groups in the categories of men and women.
Athletic veterans were honoured guests.
Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, Labour and Social Security Minister Zeki Çeler, Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, Deputies, Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell General Manager Harun Maden and citizens attended. The event was also attended by former president of the Athletics Federation of Turkey, World Masters Athletics champion and national athlete Semra Aksu and Hasan Kasap as guests of honour.
While there is no rating for 3km running and walking, the grades for the 7km and 21km courses are as follows:
