The location of the British Forces in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus is changing.
The British Forces, will be leaving the Ledra Palace Hotel at the end of the year or early 2019 and will be moving to the former airport of Nicosia, which is under the control of the United Nations.
The Alithia newspaper, published in Southern Cyprus, wrote that the British High Commissioner’s statement in Nicosia was included in the agenda of the visit of Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Deputy Secretary General responsible for peacekeeping operations of the United Nations.
According to the newspaper, the British High Commissioner said the United Nations would no longer use the Ledra Palace Hotel to host Peace Corps troops and that the hotel could only be used for events in reception halls.
Speaking that the decision was part of the proposed revision of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, the Spokesman stated that there is no scenario for the UK contingent to be taken over by the United Nations.
The Politis newspaper also reported that the Ledra Palace Hotel is no longer used for accommodation by Peace Corps soldiers, because the building is not in good condition and needs maintenance and repair.
