The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) has stressed that the misidentification of missing persons on the Greek Cypriot side was not carried out by the Committee during its activities.
A written statement by the committee points to news reports regarding the misidentification of two missing persons as a result of work carried out by the Greek Cypriot authorities in cooperation with the Cyprus Neurology and Genetics Institute and the Organization of Human Rights Doctors in 2005.
The statement outlined that a media organization accidentally used a photograph of the Missing Persons Committee Laboratory. It stressed that the Committee did not carry out any work leading to misidentification of missing people, but that the misidentification occurred as part of a program run by the Greek Cypriot authorities before 2006.
