Another Year Come and Gone
Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? What an eventful year it has been for us, not withstanding a new employer at our time in life.
We both love challenges and look forward in serving you all from this News Round. Next year will not be to dissimilar to the last one, but will relish the opportunity.
Have a wonderful festive season and sincerely hope 2018 will bring you all you wish for including good health and fortune.
Property Rental Tax
There has been a new computer programme installed in the Tax office in Girne for property rental tax payment, which, to say the least, is chaotic. For the time being, you can only make one payment at a time and that is one month in advance. Whether the system will be sorted out remains to be seen.
For those of you who must pay the tax for property rental, thus avoiding penalty for late payment the new system will not help them if they are in the UK. They will need to find someone who can make the monthly trip to the tax office tax to make payment.
Bayram Holidays
There are no Public holidays in the month of December. However, most Banks, all schools, Government and local Government offices will close on Friday 29th at 12 noon for the preparation of the new year. January 1st 2018 is a public holiday and again all the usual offices etc will be closed for the day.
Capital Insurance
Both Mary and I are now firmly settled in, in the good offices of Capital Bank in Alsancak (close to Starlings Supermarket). Hours of opening 0900 – 1500hrs Monday to Friday.
A vast number of our old customers have followed us and enjoying the facilities we have on offer, for which we sincerely thank from the bottom of our hearts.
Earlier this month we received our first property insurance claim. This time it was as a result of very large section of a tree falling onto a chain link fence due to very high wind, which allowed the owners dogs to make their escape. Urgency was therefore an important element of the claim. Within 12 hours of receiving the call, our claims department had given their authority to go ahead and the fence duly repaired to its original condition.
Now that’s service. Unlike some other insurance companies, who would not have covered the claim, if they had done so they would have applied excesses.
Over the coming months I will be in discussion with the bank to see how we can make their vast range of products and facilities available to you in the form of special customer discounts when making non – insurance purchases from them. Watch this space.
