It’s getting quite a habit but watching Esentepe you know it will go down to the final whistle. Again a late 87th minute goal by Esentepe Captain Başak gave the home team an unexpected win.

Maras for most of the match “bossed” the game and at times were very impressive.

Sunday 19 November 2017 : K-Pet League 1 : Esentepe Erdal Barut Stadium.

This I believe was the first ever League match between the two teams and on a cool sunny Sunday afternoon a crowd of around 130 were present. This included around 20 spectators from Maraş who were very noisy and enthusiastic supporting their team.

Maraş started the match on the offensive forcing some early corners, one from Gökan Yazuk ended in Süleyman getting in a close range shot which Esentepe goalkeeper Kemal did well to get down and save.

It wasn’t long before the Maraş early pressure was rewarded when they took the lead in the 19th minute. Kemal normally so dependable in dealing with crosses dropped a Gökan corner, the ball dropped to SEDAT whose first effort was blocked by Kemal, but he forced home the rebound, the ball going in off the near post. 0-1.

Esentepe hit back on the half hour first Eser heading over from a Mahmut corner and then the same player was in a good position but Baki made a last ditch tackle to block the striker’s effort.

Maraş were playing some lovely football, their players seemed comfortable on the ball, with Süleyman, Gökan Yazuk and Hasan Semmedi catching the eye. HALF TIME SCORE : 0-1

Both sides had early chances at the start of the second half, firstly for Maraş following a long throw in Süleyman got a header in at the near post forcing a diving save from Kemal. The goalkeeper sent a long kick upfield and confusion between two Maraş defenders enabled Hasan to get in an angled drive which was beaten away by goalkeeper Volkan.

Esentepe equalised after 57 minutes and it was a very fortuitous goal. A Mahmut free kick was headed powerfully away by Ramazan straight onto the head of his fellow player Süleyman, unfortunately for him the ball bounced off his head and into the net. 1-1.

After a quick break by Hasan and Başak, the ball was switched to the right to Ahmet who had a clear chance to shoot only to be robbed by a great saving tackle by Ramazan.

Similarly at the other Süleyman fastened onto a loose ball and looked certain to score until a late saving tackle from Onur managed to divert the ball away for a corner. Onur was injured after this and was replaced by Muhammed.

Maraş suffered heartache in the 87th minute, with their player Hasan lying injured Esentepe broke quickly down the left with Hasan Özçelik sending Ahmet away. The winger looked up and sent in a low cross to the unmarked BAŞAK who skilfully sidefooted the ball past Volkan. FINAL SCORE: 2-1.

SUMMING UP : A very lucky win for Esentepe, Maraş for three quarters of the game were in control, and it’s is no wonder that they started the match in 3rd place in the League. They have some very skilfull players, especially striker Süleyman who was a live wire. Their Captain Ramazan is a big powerful unit and made his presence felt in defence, a good leader as well.

Esentepe are not playing to their potential but I will say that for them they are very resilient and hard working, no one can question their commitment. Another 3 points in this difficult League. It doesn’t get any easier for Esentepe next week when they face second place and in form Hamitköy. Esentepe have no outstanding stars, they all work hard but HANSAN SUNGUR in defence had a strong and powerful match.
