North Cyprus Football : League Leaders Clash!

Sunday October 1 : K-Pet League 1 : k.o.4-00pm.

MORMENEŞKE GB v ESENTEPE KKSK.

Venue : Mormenekşe Cemal Balses Stadi.

By Richard Beale……………

League leaders Esentepe face a very tough encounter away to second place Mormeneşke on Sunday afternoon. Well Esentepe are only top as “E’ comes becomes “M’ and only one match has been played so far !. Both teams enjoyed opening day 4-1 victories, Esentepe winning at home against Akova, while Mormeneşke trounced Doğanci away.

Esentepe have suffered a major setback this week with new signing striker Hasan Özcelik returning to Turkey after being carried off on a stretcher in the first half in the last match. Hasan who announced his arrival by scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes has a lower back injury and will be missing for around 3-4 weeks. Fortunately Esentepe have a ready made replacement in another new signing Turan İlçiktay who replaced the injured Hasan as a replacement scoring himself and generally impressing.

L-R. Mormeneşke top goalscorer TURGUT.  Esentepe ınjured strıker HASAN and hıs replacement TURAN.

Esentepe were outstanding against Akova and will have their work cut out against a dangerous Mormeneşke side who must start are firm favourites and also to return to the Supa League at the first attempt after being relegated last season.

There has been many coming and goings at Mormeneşke, but basically they have retain the backbone of the same players who kept them in the top league for 4 seasons.

One of the new arrivals striker Turgut Kaçar from Dumlupınar, scored a hat trick on his debut against Doğancı.

It will be a very tough match for Esentepe, a draw will be a great result for them.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE.

Season 2012-13 : April 7, 2013 : MORMENEŞKE  ESENTEPE  0

A poor match, not helped by a poor playing surface and poor Officials. The only goal of the match was scored in the 42 minutes following a conversational goal scored by Cemil who looked well offside. Despite strong and vehement appeals to the officials the goal was allowed to stand. This spoilt the match which continued to disappoint. Mormeneşke at the end of the season would later become promoted and Esentepe would manage to retain their League 1 status by winning through the relegation Play Offs.

ESENTEPE TEAM : Ali (gk) : Oğuz, Berkan ©, Serkan (Eser 90) : Uğurcan, Hüseyin, Vurkan (Kaan 60), Burak, Umar : Ali Okan, Emek (Emrah 74).

DIRECTIONS TO THE CEMAL BALSES STADIUM :

Haven’t been there for a few years so the memory is fading. Take the main coast road out of Esentepe through Küçük Erinköy up to the T junction. Turn right and take road until the roundabout at Geçitkale where the Petrol Station is. Take second exit, onto new dual carriageway ( to Famagusta) and carry on it until you get to a roundabout marked Şehitler mass graves, Sandallah. (maybe the 3rd roundabout). Take that exit until you come to a road junction , turn right and that takes you to Mormeneşke. When you get to the Village there is a directional sign on the right marked Cemal Balses Stadi If you go through Mormeneşke and up to the next roundabout at Yeni Boğazici there are plenty of bars, kebab and restaurants for pre match refreshments.

  1. Hello!

Is there any way that I can find out the Northern Cyprus football fixtures for early December? Or do they just come as and when they happen?
